Silk & Snow Duvet review

Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet - Composition

The Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet is crafted with meticulous attention to materials and construction, ensuring a quality product that meets the needs of those seeking a vegan, down-free duvet option.

Shell Material

The exterior shell of the duvet is made from 100% cotton with a 233-thread count. This cotton is soft and breathable, enhancing the overall comfort. The cotton shell is also durable, contributing to the duvet’s longevity.

Fill Material

Instead of traditional down from ducks or geese, the Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet uses a vegan microfiber fill, which we found to feel a lot like actual down. This down alternative is designed to mimic the insulating properties of natural down while being hypoallergenic, making it suitable for individuals with allergies.

Construction

The duvet features a sewn-through small-pocket construction, which ensures that the fill remains evenly distributed throughout the duvet. This design prevents shifting and clumping of the fill, maintaining consistent warmth and comfort across the entire surface.

Weight Choice

We love that Silk & Snow is offering three versions of its Down Alternative Duvet. The All-Season, which we tested, is great for all seasons and sleeper types. On very cold winter nights, simply add a quilt, throw, or coverlet to your duvet for extra warmth if needed. The Lightweight is a great option for those living in heat and those who constantly sleep hot. While the Winter Duvet is a great option for those seeking extra warmth.

Composition Temperature Softness Maintenance Options
The Silk & Snow Down Duvet is made of two parts. The shell is built of 100% cotton, while its filling is made of various amounts of down-like microfiber fill, depending on the version of the duvet you purchase.
We tested the All Season Duvet in the Florida spring. We loved the weight on our bodies and found that we were able to regulate our bodies’ temperatures, leaving us perfectly comfortable, never too hot or sweaty in any way. If you are a hot sleep, you may want to consider the Lightweight version, while cold sleepers or folks in cold climates may prefer the Winter version.
The Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet feels soft thanks to its cotton cover and the airy and breathable microfill inside of it. Choose a high-quality duvet cover to go with it, for very soft sleep.
The Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet is very easy to care for. You can machine wash it on cold and further machine dry on low tumble. Refrain from using bleach and we recommend washing and drying on its own to prevent other items from damaging its cover.
Choose from three thickness levels: Lightweight – for hot sleepers or warm summers, All Season – great for round-the-year use, while sleepers in cold climate, or cold sleepers, can opt for the Winter version for warmer sleep and more weight.

Softness & Weight

Softness and weight are two crucial factors in determining the comfort level of a duvet, and the Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet aims to deliver a plush and cozy experience.

Softness

We have found this Silk & Snow Duvet to be plenty soft. The microfill very closely mimics the feels and softness of down and the overall feel of the duvet is very soft. Simply add a high-quality duvet cover to add more softness to your set up.

Weight

You have three choices when it comes to weight. Of course, the weight will impact the warmth of your duvet, however, if you are more impacted by the weight of your duvet than its warmth, it is worth noting that the Lightweight uses 175 GSM, the All-Season boasts 375 GSM, which is significantly heavier, while the Winter is 500 GSM, for the heaviest of the options.

Lastly, we like that the weight is even throughout the night. The design of smaller stitched pocket, filled with microfill, ensures that the weight does not shift overnight.

Comparison to Traditional Down

The Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet offers a denser feel compared to traditional down, which can be a consideration for those seeking a specific level of softness. Options To Tailor To Your Sleep

Silk & Snow recognizes that every sleeper has unique needs, especially since their Down Alternative Duvet can be purchased from northern Canada to the southern U.S., which is why the duvet comes in three distinct warmth options:

All-Season Duvet

The All Season option is perfect for those who experience varying temperatures throughout the year. With a moderate fill weight of 175 GSM, it provides ample warmth during colder months while remaining breathable enough for spring and fall. This versatility makes it an excellent choice for most climates.

We tested the All Season option in the Florida spring and did not overheat or sweat in any way.

Lightweight Duvet

For hot sleepers or those living in warmer climates, the Lightweight option delivers exceptional comfort without the risk of overheating. Its reduced fill weight ensures a cool, airy feel, making it an ideal choice for summer months or year-round use in temperate regions.

Winter Duvet

For cold sleepers or those living in extended winter regions, the Winter duvet delivers more weight and warmth than any other option. Its fill is thicker and its feel is heavier and cozier, delivering the warmth a cold sleeper will need to regulate its body temperature of cold nights.

Sizes

The duvet is available in three standard sizes—Twin/Twin XL, Full/Queen, and King/California King—making it compatible with nearly all beds.

Maintenance

Ease of maintenance is a significant consideration for bedding products, and the Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet is designed with user convenience in mind.

Care Instructions

One of the notable advantages of this duvet is its machine-washable nature. Unlike traditional down duvets that often require dry cleaning or spot cleaning, the Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet can be laundered at home, simplifying the cleaning process and reducing maintenance costs.

Simply throw in the washing machine on a cold cycle and dry in your dryer on low tumble. We recommend washing and drying on its own to avoid it getting tangled and damaged with other items during the wash and dry cycles.

Durability

The use of high-quality materials, such as the 100% cotton shell and durable microfiber fill, contributes to the duvet’s resilience. Proper care, including following the recommended washing instructions and using a duvet cover, can extend the product’s lifespan and maintain its appearance and performance over time.

Who Is The Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvet Best For?

While we think that everyone can benefit from sleeping with one of the Silk & Snow Down Alternative Duvets, we particularly recommend it for:

  • Allergy Sufferers: The hypoallergenic microfiber fill makes this duvet an excellent choice for individuals with allergies to natural down or feathers.

  • Ethically Conscious Consumers: Those seeking animal-free bedding options will appreciate the vegan-friendly materials used in this duvet.

  • Eco-Conscious Individuals: The use of recycled materials in the fill aligns with sustainable practices, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers.

We sleep tested the All Season and thought it truly performs well from the coldest of winter nights to the warmer summer nights. The Winter Duvet is significantly heavier than the All-Season, and we recommend it for the colder nights.

Like most duvets, the bed sizes are grouped into: Twin / Twin XL, Full / Queen, and King / California King.
