What Is Inside The Maxzzz Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper?
The Maxzzz 3-inch Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper is made of 3 layers. A mattress topper cover and two 1.5″ memory foam layers glued together, for a total height of 3 inches.
The mattress topper is double sided and you can flip it depending on your sleeping preference. This is ideal for people unsure of their preference in terms of mattress firmness, for couples with different sleeping styles, or in case of an acute need for a different sleeping surface related to a medical condition or accident.
It does have a bit of gassing, emitting a pretty strong smell in the room for a few days. Eventually the smell dissipates and disappears. And you will find that it reaches its full size fairly quickly. It can take up to 48 hours to fully expand, but we noticed that our test model was ready to be slept on within about 20/30 minutes.
Washable Anti-Slip Cover
The Maxzzz mattress topper cover is made of 100% polyester, which makes it washable. Simply unzip it, remove the foam layers, and wash it in your washing machine.
I love its anti-slip properties. On either side, we noticed a strong grip of the cover against the mattress, preventing it from moving, even when uncovered by a mattress protector and fitted sheet.
Lastly, the topper cover comes with 4 corner elastic, designed to fit around mattresses 2 to 21 inches thick. That will virtually fit around any mattress you might own. I must say, however, that we tested ours on the 11-inch thick Purple Hybrid mattress and it seemed pretty tight. I am not sure how the elastics would react to 21 inches of mattress, but I also doubt that you own a mattress that thick. The thickest mattresses we have ever tested were 13 inches thick.
1.5″ Bamboo Charcoal Memory Foam
As the name of the mattress tells us, the bamboo charcoal memory foam is the star of the show. It is a 5-second rebound, which is extremely slow. In other words, it takes 5 seconds for the foam to bounce back up after you lay in it.
Some might find it a little too slow and have a slight feeling of being stuck in the mattress. But the thicker copper foam below does help provide the support your body needs.
That bamboo charcoal layer of foam is great if you are a side sleeper and looking for deep pressure relief. I recommend it to sleepers who sleep in one position and don’t switch positions too often at night.
1.5″ Copper Memory Foam
When used on its firm, grey side, this copper mattress topper offers a lot more support and heat dissipation.
That firmer side of the Maxzzz mattress topper is great for back sleepers, as well as combo sleepers who move from their side to their back at night.
Antibacterial, it is a great addition to your current mattress if you suffer from allergies or sleep hot.
How Does The Maxzzz Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper Sleep?
Firmness
Because the Maxzzz Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper is flippable, we rated each side independently. They feel truly different from one another and deserve their own test and score.
The white side of the mattress, made of bamboo charcoal infused memory foam, is the softer side. It is about a 4.5 / 10 on the firmness scale. It provides deep body contouring and deep pressure relief. If you sleep with a partner, you will find that side to have low motion transfer, and your partner’s movements won’t be a bother anymore. A soft and hugging envelop comforts your body to sleep and I recommend it for side sleepers who do not move too much at night.
The grey side of the mattress, made of copper infused memory foam, is a lot firmer, scoring a 6.5 / 10, which is a fairly average firmness. While it provides some softness and slight contouring, it has responsive properties that make moving around a lot easier.
Sleeping Style
Once again, each side of the mattress needs to be looked at independently when it comes to sleeping styles.
The bamboo charcoal side of the mattress (white side) will work best for side sleepers. I can also recommend it in the case of a partner moving a lot and the other one being bothered by his/her movement. Back sleepers who love a soft mattress might do fine on it, especially if they are lighter weight.
The grey and firmer copper infused memory foam is a great sleeping surface for back sleepers. Lower weight stomach sleepers might also find it comfortable, though most would call it too soft.
Temperature
Because both foams use open cell technology, with a perforated structure, you will find lots of air flowing through the foams, preventing you from overheating on this Maxzzz Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper. Additionally, the copper infused foam is know as a natural heat dissipation layer, while the bamboo charcoal layer helps regulate the body temperature.
While you won’t sleep cool on this mattress topper, you won’t sleep hot either and we call it temperature neutral.
Motion Transfer
Thanks to its 3 inches of memory foam, including a very slow responding layer of bamboo charcoal infused foam, the Maxzzz 3-Inch Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper does really well on the motion transfer test and you should not be worried much about a partner’s movements.
How Do I Care For The Maxzzz Bamboo Charcoal Mattress Topper?
Whenever possible, try to blot a stain as quickly as possible. Tap it to remove excess liquid and spot clean with a cloth, water, and a mild detergent.
For bigger spills and stains, the mattress cover of this Maxzzz mattress topper is thankfully unzippable and washable. Simply throw it in your washing machine and wash on cold. You can air dry it and fit it right back around the layers of foam for a clean night of sleep!
