2″ AirFoam™
Nolah’s AirFoam™ is NOT memory foam and not made with any of the heat-trapping chemicals present in memory foams. AirFoam™ is proven to be 300% more durable, provide 4 times better pressure relief, while sleeping cooler than high-end memory foam. This top layer provides incredible pressure relief and prevents hip, shoulder, and lower back pains – great for people with aches and pains!
1″ Supportive Foam
The Nolah Original 10″ has a 1″ layer of high-resilience foam under the AirFoam™ that provides extra support to the back and ensures a comfortable night of sleep. This foam is more durable than latex and gives the Nolah Original 10″ a longer life than most mattresses on the market.
7″ High-Density Base Foam
Nolah uses CertiPUR-US certified foam in its mattresses, making them healthier for our bodies and the environment. The 7″ of high-density foam is a breathable foam that intensifies the support below the contouring upper layers.
Botanic-Origin Tencel™ Cover
This mattress uses a cellulosic cover of botanic origin. It is a natural option and one of the softest mattress covers I have ever laid my body on. It does not feel cold to the touch since the foam used throughout the mattress is enough to keep you cool at night. It is however soft and has a thick plush to it.

Detailed Nolah Mattress Review Conclusion - Original 10"
During our Nolah Mattress Review, we found the Nolah Original 10″ mattress to be an incredible option for side-sleepers and quite the technological advance in the mattress industry, especially for those who sleep hot. They’re disrupting a 40-year old technology with a product that is more durable, provides 4 times better pressure relief, and sleeps cooler than memory foam. In terms of lifespan, Nolah’s lifetime warranty speaks for itself!
The snow-white Tencel cover is one of my favorite sleeping surfaces of all of the mattresses I have ever tested. It is amazingly soft and plush and I honestly wish I did not have to cover it with a sheet. The Nolah Original’s 3 foam layers / AirFoam™ help release all of the pressure points after a long day’s work and send you to a comfortable cloud that will leave you rejuvenated and rested by morning. You will enjoy cool sleep night after night, and realize that consistent rest leaves you better armed for the day ahead.
So if you are a side sleeper and you sleep hot, read on – the Nolah Original 10″ foam layers make it an incredibly comfortable mattress for pressure point relief when side sleeping. As far as other sleeping positions go, during our Nolah Mattress review, we found that back sleepers under about 200 lbs can have a very comfortable night of sleep. Stomach sleepers, however, will likely be missing from support in the hip area and should consider the Nolah Evolution 15.

Who Is Nolah?
Nolah calls itself a “sleep technology company.” It is an online bed-in-a-box company that launched in 2015. All of their products are designed in Denver, CO, and made in the USA. Yet, they are able to keep their prices down and pass on their savings to their consumers – you!
Nolah’s aim is to create tomorrow’s mattress. After realizing that latex was invented in the 1920’s and that the memory foam we still use in mattresses today, had not evolved since the 1970’s, they decided to design superior mattresses by leveraging the latest technologies.
AirFoam™ was born. The Nolah AirFoam™ is 100% temperature neutral, as it does not contain viscoelastic chemicals commonly found in memory foam. It sleeps so cool that it does not require the use of cooling gels in its layers, and has been scientifically-proven to be more durable and provide more pressure relief than its older sister, the memory foam. What Is Inside The Nolah Original 10"?
The Nolah Original 10″ is made of 3 distinctive layers of foam working together to bring support and soft contouring. Each layer has a purpose and works to keep the body cool and comfortable.
The bottom layer is 7 inches of high-density foam. That base grounds the mattress with the firmness that balances out the upper 2 layers’ contouring and plushness. It is the foundation layer that brings support to your back, while being breathable enough to channel your body heat down and outwards.
The center layer is 1 inch of high-resilience foam. This is your transitional layer. That foam is stronger and more durable than latex, eliminating sagging over time. It also provides a healthy and responsive bounce so you never have the feeling of being stuck in a thick memory foam. That inch of foam makes turning around easy and adds years of life to the Nolah Original.
The upper layer is 2 inches of the famous Nolah AirFoam™. That AirFoam™ is the layer that allows your body to rest with low pressure under the shoulders, hips, and lower back. For side-sleepers especially, the AirFoam™ allows your hips and shoulders to sink in a little deeper, aligning your body without pressuring areas that could cause pain when laying flat on one level.
This new material has scientifically proven to relieve 4 times more pressure than regular memory foam. The AirFoam™ is fairly low density, with billions of air bubbles trapped in it, keeping you cool by channeling the heat emitted by your body through and down to the lower layers. And since there is less sagging than with regular memory foam, the heat does not get trapped underneath and around you, making this mattress ideal when living in hot climates or for hot sleepers.
Lastly, the snow-white Tencel™ cover has a beautiful stitched rainbow pattern that is soft and plush to the touch. Once covered by a bed sheet, it remains cozy and extremely comfortable. I like that the cover is of botanic origin, making it a sustainable and natural material that makes you feel good about laying on it all night.
How Does The Nolah Original 10" Sleep?
Firmness
The Nolah Original 10″ mattress is a medium soft mattress. The top 3″ of foam are soft and provide a bouncy, yet cozy contouring, while the bottom 7″ bring firmness and support to the spine. I am rating this mattress a 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
Sleeping Style
The Nolah Original is ideal for side-sleepers. The low pressure applied to the hips and shoulders means that, when laying on your side, you will find your body in a very natural position, where the hips and shoulders sink a little deeper than the rest of your body. This makes the mattress a good option for people suffering from back pain as well.
Back-sleepers under 200 lbs will find a good option in the Nolah Original. Above that weight is when you might start feeling your hips and lower back sinking a little too deep for comfort.
I do not recommend the Nolah Original 10″ for stomach-sleepers, as you would be lacking the support you need to prevent your back from arching uncomfortably.
If you sleep with a partner, you will find that the Nolah Original has great motion isolation and you will not get woken up by your partner’s movement at night! This is a great mattress for couples.
Temperature
Many memory foam mattresses use cooling gel as a way to keep sleepers cool at night, since memory foam lacks breathability and traps the heat around and below its sleepers.
Nolah’s foam and AirFoam™ allow the heat to escape and provide a temperature-neutral sleeping experience. We sleep tested the mattress during hot Florida nights and felt neither hot, nor cold. The Nolah Original’s temperature is best described as neutral and comfortable, without the need to use cooling gel.
Motion Transfer
The Nolah Original 10″ did really well with motion transfer. While it is made of 10 inches of foam, it does have an inch of fairly responsive foam, which means that it does not 100% absorb motion, but I don’t expect a partner’s movements to disturb or wake you up. I am very sensitive to motion as my husband moves around a lot at night, and I was never woken up during our test nights.
How Do I Care For The Nolah Original 10" Mattress?
The cover of the Nolah Original should not be removed, and cannot be thrown in the washing machine. The best way to attend to a stain is to use water, a mild detergent, and blot the stain with a cloth. Do not rub the stain as you’d risk making it larger. A gentle blot on fresh stains should help you clean them up.
How Does The Nolah's Return Policy Work?
While some might criticize Nolah’s return policy, I think it is a smart one. Getting used to a new mattress can take some time, especially if you switch to foam from a previous pillow-top for example.
Nolah has a 120-night at-home sleep trial period. In other words, it allows for free returns within 120 days if you are unhappy with your Nolah Original mattress. But returns aren’t allowed until after you have passed a 30-night testing period. Nolah asks that you give their mattress a full 30 nights of sleep before returning it, and I agree that it could take a couple of weeks for your body to adapt to a new sleeping shape.
If, after 30 days, you are still unhappy or uncomfortable with your Nolah mattress, you have until 120 days to return it, free of charge, no questions asked (mattress needs to be returned before the 120th night).
