What's Inside The Silk & Snow Mattress
In a nutshell:
- Washable mattress cover
- 4lbs high-density gel memory foam
- 3 foam layers
In more detail...
Washable Mattress Cover
We love mattresses with washable covers. While we don’t recommend washing your cover for every little stain, it comes in very handy in case of larger spills, or as a once-a-year maintenance wash. The Silk & Snow Mattress has a 360-degree zippable cover, that makes it easy to throw in the washer when needed.
4lbs High-Density Gel Memory Foam
All-foam mattresses are known to sleep hot. They are typically non-breathable and trap the heat around and below your body. The top layer in the Silk & Snow Mattress is made of 4lbs of gel memory foam, ensuring that you sleep temperature-neutral at night, making it a great mattress for hot sleepers who enjoy the feel of memory foam.
3 Foam Layers
The Silk & Snow Mattress is made up of 3 layers of foam, making up its 10 inches in thickness. Below the top 4 lbs of gel memory foam are two more layers of 1.8 lbs each. The center layer of foam acts as transition between the softer and firmer layers on either side. It provides full body support and further isolates motion. The bottom layer of 1.8 lbs is the highest-density foam, which acts as foundation and provides stability to the mattress.
Silk & Snow Mattress Sleep Tests
Everything we felt in one box
|Firmness||Temperature||Maintenance||Sleeping Style||Bed Base|
We rated the Silk & Snow Mattress a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, making it a pretty average firmness level. You can expect a nice amount of contouring and pressure relief from the top layer of foam, balanced with excellent support from the lower layers of higher-density foams.
The Silk & Snow Mattress sleeps temperature-neutral. The gel-infused memory foam cools your body down by diffusing your excess heat and keeping your sleep sweat-free. We sleep tested it in Florida heat and did not suffer from the heat at all. We're calling it temperature neutral.
Did I mention how much I love a washable mattress cover? The Silk & Snow Mattress comes with a 360-degree zippable cover that can easily be thrown in the washing machine as needed. We do recommend spot cleaning smaller stains before washing the whole cover. However, larger spills, or a yearly clean, can be tended to in the washing machine on cold with mild detergent and hang dried. Note that the Silk & Snow mattress cover is made of antimicrobial textile, which is bacteria-resistant for a clean sleep night after night!
We recommend the Silk & Snow Mattress to side-sleepers first. You will find all of the pressure relief needed in the hips and shoulders areas to provide a comfortable night of sleep. Back sleepers under 200/220 lbs who like a softer mattress, will also do well on the Silk & Snow Mattress. We do not recommend this mattress to heavier-weight back sleepers or any stomach sleepers, as you will lack the support needed for a healthy spine alignment.
We love how universal the Silk & Snow Mattress is. It will work with most of your existing frames – flat platform bed, adjustable bed, slatted base, and box spring. You can even take it to the floor and enjoy its full comfort! It makes it an easy mattress to buy and set up without investing more into it.

Detailed Silk & Snow Mattress Review Conclusion
We have reviewed all Silk & Snow mattresses and can recommend all of them without a doubt. Silk & Snow offers a hybrid mattress if you are looking for a slightly firmer and more aerated mattress, and an organic mattress, which we loved testing and found to be a little firmer as well and organic throughout.
The original Silk & Snow Mattress is their all-foam mattress, and once again, we love how close the brand is to all of the product sources and manufacturing plants. They work closely to monitor the quality of the products and know the family-owned companies they source their foams, textile, and steel from.
By purchasing the Silk & Snow Mattress, you are bringing a high-quality U.S.-made mattress (Canada-made for Canadian orders) with North-American-sourced materials.
Who Is Silk & Snow?
Silk & Snow is a Canadian mattress and bedding company, established in 2017, by founders obsessed with good nights of sleep, who wanted to create a mattress-in-a-box of higher quality than anything available on the market.
I love that they provide full transparency in where all of the materials, used to make their products, are sourced. As an example, they highlight the rich heritage of all of the generational family run businesses that are involved in making some of their most popular products such as their mattresses.

What Is Inside The Silk & Snow Mattress?
The Silk & Snow Mattress is made of 3 layers of foam and a washable mattress cover.
Its mattress cover is made of antimicrobial textile that is bacteria-resistant and prevents the growth of bacteria. Because you can easily zip it off thanks to its 360-degree zipper, washing larger spills and stains is an easy affair. You can throw the Silk & Snow Mattress cover in your washing machine and wash it on cold with mild detergent before hanging in dry and zipping it back up around your mattress.
Silk & Snow is very transparent when it comes to the provenance of their materials, which I really appreciate. The foams and textiles used in the Silk & Snow Mattress are all sourced in North America. The foams are produced in the Northern U.S. and the textiles are produced in Toronto, Ontario.
The owners of Silk & Snow have developed products that are sustainable, produce less waste, and are easy on our planet, while ensuring they meet health standards and are CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX certified, giving you peace of mind when bringing their mattresses in your home.
The top layer of foam in the Silk & Snow Mattress is 4 lbs of gel-infused memory foam. The open-cell memory foam is infused with cooling gel, turning a generally hot-sleeping material into a cooling layer that helps, even hot sleepers, sleep cool! After testing for a whole week in the Florida summer, we found the Silk & Snow Mattress to be very temperature-neutral – the ideal sleeping temperature, neither hot nor uncomfortably cold.
That top layer of foam provides deep pressure relief, allowing the heavier parts in your body to sink in a little deeper, providing contouring and comfort.
Next come 1.8 lbs of a higher-density foam, which adds all of the support your body needs under the softer upper layer, in order to align into a healthy sleeping position. That second layer of foam also further reduces the motion transfer, making the Silk & Snow Mattress a great option if you sleep with a partner whose movement wake you up at night.
The bottom layer of foam in the Silk & Snow Mattress is another 1.8 lbs of the highest-density foam. That bottom layer is common in nearly all mattresses and provides overall stability to the whole mattress.
How Does The Silk & Snow Mattress Sleep?
In short, the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress provides a medium sleeping firmness, which we rated a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale, making it average / middle of the scale.
It provides a good amount of pressure relief, reinforced by a firmer layer of foam that helps keep your spine aligned.
If you like an average firmness mattress, the Silk & Snow will be a great option for you.
The Silk & Snow Mattress is ideal for side sleepers, and a good option for back-sleepers under the 200/220-lb mark.
Stomach sleepers will find the surface too soft and risk their hips dipping too far into the foam, which will create lower back and neck pain. If you are a stomach-sleeper or a heavier back sleeper, consider the Silk & Snow Hybrid Mattress or Silk & Snow Organic Mattress instead.
Side sleepers, however, need a top layer of pressure-relieving material, which is exactly what the Silk & Snow Mattress provides. It allows for side-sleepers’ hips and shoulders to sink it just the right amount to align their spine for healthy sleep.
If you are a back sleeper who enjoys a slightly softer mattress, you will do really well on this mattress as well. We do believe that heavier-weight back-sleepers will find this mattress too soft and could suffer from lower-back pain. If you fall in this category and need other options, check our Best Mattresses For The Big And Tall list. You will find the Silk & Snow Organic Mattress on that list as well!
The big advantage of the Silk & Snow Mattress over other all-foam mattresses is its top layer of open cell, gel-infused, memory foam.
It sleeps temperature-neutral, unlike regular memory foams. Instead of the body heat getting trapped under and around the sleeper, it is diffused into the foam, which helps provide a cooling feeling and an overall temperature-neutral sleeping experience.
Thanks to its 10 inches of foams, the Silk & Snow Mattress isolates nearly all of the motion from a partner’s movement. This makes the mattress an ideal choice for couples, especially if one partner has a tendency to be woken up by his/her partner’s movements.
How Do I Care For The Silk & Snow Mattress?
Silk & Snow recommends that you rotate your Mattress every three months to ensure optimal feel and increase the longevity of the mattress. You should however never flip the mattress, since the layers are meant to stay positioned in a certain order.
The mattress cover in the Silk & Snow Mattress is fully unzippable, which we absolutely love. I recommend only throwing the mattress cover in the washing machine when tending to large stains, or for a yearly maintenance wash. For smaller stains, blot clean immediately with cold water and a gentle cleaning solution. Just make sure you don’t rub, as that could spread the stain. If the stain is large, unzip the cover, wash it on cold with a mild detergent, and let it fully air dry before zipping it back up around the mattress.
