Brooklyn Bedding just released an all foam mattress called the Bowery
The Bowery launched with a price that is designed to compete with: Nectar, Tuft & Needle, tulo, and the Casper Essential. As it just came out today, I haven’t had the chance to see it or sleep test it. I plan on going to their factory here in Phoenix to see it and learn more about how it is made.
I’m a little spoiled by all of the Brooklyn Bedding stores near me, so I popped into their North Scottsdale location to see the Bowery. After sitting on it for a second I knew it was going to fit my sleep style. It is soft, just the way I like it for side sleeping. The folks at the store were great, but I had my kids with me (there is a chick fil a in the parking lot so it was supposed to be a win win trip) so I didn’t spend as much time there as I wanted to.
Brooklyn Bedding has also redesigned their Signature mattress (#bestmattressever). They have added 6″ pocketed coils, so I am also interested in seeing the changes. I haven’t been to their factory in a few months, so I’m excited to see their new lineup.
One of the main advantages that Brooklyn Bedding has is that they control the entire process from development, production, and direct to you shipping. There are no additional middlemen so they can pass on those savings to you.
What is Inside the Mattress?
The cover is a stretch knit cotton fabric, and it looks similar to the cover of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora. What I really love about it is that it snaps right back in when you let go after stretching.
You can also tell instantly if some fabric is high quality, that’s exactly how It felt when I ran my hand on that cover. That’s always a good sign.
Construction of the Bowery
Layer 1: 3″ of Energex Foam.
Their Patented Energex™ foam is designed with an added infusion of cooling gel that helps promote airflow and cooling, while offering exceptional body contouring and comfort. Pushing down onto the first layer with both hands I get instant response. The comfort and bounciness Energex Foam alone has to offer is remarkable. This foam is 3.5lb with a medium density of between 28-30 ILD.
Layer 2: 2″ of Transitional Comfort Foam.
This Polyfoam Layer offers a gentle transition to firmer base foam. It’s the Layer that connects that firm bottom foundation with the soft top layer. That explains why we call it Transition Layer!
Layer 3: 5″ Base Support Foam. This foam is 1.8lb with a denisty of 36ILD
A high density foundation foam layer gives the Brooklyn Bowery structural firmness as well as a durable, sturdy base.
All three foams act together in perfect harmony. Team work right there, Brooklyn Bedding gathered the best team of foams in one mattress. It’s like one layer helping another one to provide the sleeper with exactly what he’s looking for. A Cool, Comfortable, Uninterrupted sleep.
It just came out, please give me some time to test it!
Update. A few weeks into sleep testing the Bowery Mattress from Brooklyn Bedding
Results are in, and they are GREAT!
For those who don’t know yet, I am a side/ back sleeper. Whether it was edge support or motion transfer the bowery has showed amazing response. It’s not your traditional stuck in bed all foam mattress. It is the mattress that helps distribute your weight evenly and supports your back and neck, helping you get that cool night uninterrupted sleep even if you share your bed with a partner, or a heavy pet! And I have both examples and there was not a single instance where I was woken up by any of that. My husband leaves the bed between 4 and 5 am and I wake up between 6 and 6:30 am, and right in between the dog jumps in bed but I have no clue any of this happened until I am awake. No disturbance whatsoever. And I LOVE THAT. Well the fact that I open my eyes to give my husband a hug and turned out to be the dog is a different story~ (of course I still give my dog a hug).
You will barely notice any sinking, the layers again together do a great job keeping this mattress therefore the sleeper stable, leveling your body weight and heavy parts so you are not sinking too much into the mattress. Now keep in mind, the bowery is an all foam mattress after all and people come in different body shapes and sizes, so the results may not be the same if let’s say you are over 160 pounds or so. That’s why you should expand your search to include something firmer like the Brooklyn Signature. It’s also a better fit if you are a stomach sleeper especially that you are trying to avoid your hips from sinking. That would be painful and we don’t want that.
Great quality, from cover to all three layers.
Made in the USA.
For an all foam bed it’s safe to say it’s sturdy.
Tends to be soft/ medium soft. Not quiet firm.
People on a budget who are looking for American made direct to your door products. Also if you are a side/ back sleeper, by that I mean you tend to switch sides while sleeping this one is for you. Don’t take this all foam mattress for granted, it has some serious quick response and bounciness which I have found pretty amazing.
Put your hands up if you sleep hot and hate it. If sleeping cool is priority, you have to give the Bowery a try. I know that the Bowery as well as all other Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come in a box and a lot of people still want to physically lay down and feel a mattress before making a purchase. So if you belong to that group of people you are in luck, go online and search for the closest Brooklyn Bedding store where you will be able to try their products.
