7 Layers
Since the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid mattress can be flipped, you will find the same set of layers on either side of the central layer of coils. Two layers of foam and a thick knitted mattress cover can be found on each side of the 6 inches of individually-wrapped coils, for a total of 7 premium layers.
Flippable Mattress
When you purchase a 2-Sided Crafted Sleep mattress, you are essentially buying 2 mattresses for the price of (not even) one! You are getting a mattress that will last you twice as long. Simply flip it and rotate it every 3 to 6 months and it will last you twice as long as a single-sided mattress.
Dual-Firmness Mattress Option
When purchasing the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress, you can choose to have a Medium firmness side, and a Luxury Firm side, which essentially creates 2-mattresses-in-1, giving you a completely different feel when you flip your mattress. If your sleeping preference changes for whatever reason, no need to purchase a new mattress, simply flip your Crafted Sleep. You can of course choose to add the same firmness level to both sides of your mattress, for a mattress that will last you twice as long!
Gel-Infused Foams
Crafted Sleep uses 2 layers of cooling gel infused foams in its 2-sided hybrid mattress. That foam actively pulls the heat transferred from your body to the foam, and disperses it down into the layers, keeping you cooler at night. It is also a responsive layer for foam, so you never feel stuck in your Crafted Sleep mattress.

The Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid comes in 2 firmness levels - Medium and Luxury Firm. We tested the Medium firmness and found it a little softer than average. We rated it around 5.5/10 on the firmness scale (an average mattress is closer to 6-6.5). With this 2-sided, flippable, mattress, you can choose to design a dual-firmness mattress by choosing a different firmness level on each side of the Crafted Sleep mattress. You can also choose to use the same firmness on both sides, for a mattress that will last you twice as long. |
Thanks to its layer of cooling gel-infused foam, there is no feeling of getting stuck in excess body heat. Instead of getting trapped, it is dispersed into the lower layers of the mattress. By controlling every step of the process, Crafted Sleep is able to control costs and provide luxurious mattresses for a portion of the price you would expect! The value is incredible, as Crafted Sleep manages every part of the process in house, from cutting its foams, to handcrafting, hand sewing, rolling, boxing, and shipping the mattresses.
Crafted Sleep has an interesting business model. Instead of producing several different models, they found two mattresses that work for them (a hybrid and an all-foam), and they handcraft them with utmost precision, giving its sleepers options to customize their favorite mattress. Choose your favorite thickness, firmness, and 1-sided or 2-sided, for the exact mattress to fit your sleeping preference and your budget!
What Is Inside The Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress?
The Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress is made of a total of 7 layers repeating themselves on either side of the center coils. Since it is a 2-sided, or flippable mattress, you are getting 2-mattresses-in-1, with the option to rotate and flip your mattress to double its life.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid mattress. We reviewed the 14-inch model, but note that the 2-sided mattress is also available in 12 inches, and 12 inches all-foam. All foams used in Crafted Sleep mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified, making them free of harsh chemicals and with low emissions into your bedroom air.
Cool Max Cover
The closest layer to your body, the Crafted Sleep Cool Max Cover has a modern, grey, hand stitched design.
Incredibly soft, it is also breathable and moisture-wicking. It is plush and hugging and we never slept hot on it. Since this is a flippable mattress, you will find the exact same mattress cover on the other side of the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress, no matter the firmness level you choose for your second side.
2″ Gel-Infused Memory Foam
Memory foam is known as a hot-sleeping material, in which you get stuck at night… forget all of that in the Crafted Sleep Hybrid Mattress!
Crafted Sleep using a thick 2-inch layer of cooling gel-infused memory foam right underneath its Cool Max Mattress Cover. Thanks to its cooling gel, it sucks in your excess body and allows your body to sleep in a temperature-neutral environment.
Those first 2 inches provide lots of pressures relief (if you choose the Luxury Firm option, this is the layer of foam that will be firmer than in the Medium version of the mattress). In the Medium firmness mattress, those 2 inches of gel-infused memory foam provide all of the pressure relief side-sleepers will need to sleep with an aligned spine. The high pressure areas located in the hips and shoulders will find all of the pressure relief they need for a healthy night of sleep.
Additionally to pressure relief, the gel-infused memory foam used in the Crafted Sleep mattresses has excellent responsiveness. You will never feel stuck in your mattress – tossing and turning is made easy thanks to a foam that bounces back when you switch position!
This layer is the same as layer number #6 of 7 in this 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress.
2″ HD Transition Foam
This second layer of foam, known as HD Transition Foam, provides another 2 inches of pressure relief, while transitioning into a more supportive and firmer layer of foam. Its goal is to start aligning your bones and spine in a healthy sleeping position.
It also provides transition layer before hitting the coils right underneath, adding stability to the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided mattress.
This 3rd layer is the same as the 5th layer, which becomes the 3rd layer once you flip over your 2-sided flippable mattress.
6″ Individually-Wrapped Coils
The 6 inches of coils are individually-wrapped, to reduce motion transfer in the Crafted Sleep Hybrid Mattress. When one coil is activated by a sleeper’s movement, other coils are able to remain stable since they are independently wrapped. This allows partners to sleep without feeling the movement of the second person tossing at night.
The coil layer further provides spine-aligning support, giving your body all of the support it needs to lay in a healthy position all night long.
The coils used in the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid mattress are reinforced on the edges. This allows you to sleep from edge-to-edge, giving you the impression of a mattress about 20% wider than it truly is. Additionally, if you are someone who sits on the side of his/her bed, the reinforced coils make getting in and out of bed easier.
The 6 inches of coils are the center layer in this 7-layer mattress, with the same benefits no matter the side of the mattress you sleep on.
How Does The Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress Sleep?
Firmness
You can choose your firmness level when purchasing the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress. You can also decide to add a different firmness to each side of your mattress, for dual firmness.
The Medium firmness felt a little softer than the average mattress. We rated it about a 5.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The Luxury Firm is closer to a 7 out of 10.
Sleeping Style
Thanks to the customizable firmness level, the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress accommodates most sleeping styles!
If you are a side-sleeper, the Medium firmness will be perfect for you, providing you with the healthy pressure relief your high-pressured areas (hips and shoulders) need, as well as enough support below the pressure relief, to align your spine and support your bones. Some lighter-weight back-sleepers who have a personal preference for softer mattresses, might do fine on the Medium.
We recommend the Luxury Firm to back and stomach sleepers. Stomach-sleepers should definitely not try sleeping on the Medium, as their back who curve into an unhealthy position. Side-sleepers who prefer a firmer sleeping surface, may find the Luxury Firm to be a comfortable sleeping surface as well.
If you know that your sleeping position switches during the year, or based on chronic aches and pains, ordering the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid mattress with a different firmness on each side would be the perfect way to quickly switch comfort level as needed during the year.
Temperature
Thanks to the upper layer of foam being infused with cooling gel, the Crafted Sleep Hybrid mattress sleeps very temperature neutral. It captures and draws your excess body heat away from you and deep into the mattress, allowing it to escape through the airy coil layer and outwards into your room.
Motion Transfer
The Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress is excellent when it comes to motion transfer. You will not be disturbed by the movements of your partner, as all motion is absorbed by 8 inches of foam and the individually-wrapped coils.
How Do I Care For The Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress?
The cover of the Crafted Sleep 2-Sided Hybrid Mattress cannot be thrown in the washing machine. The best way to tend to a stain is to use water, a mild detergent, and blot the stain with a cloth. Do not rub the stain as you’d risk making it larger. A gentle blot on fresh stains should help you clean them up.
