What's Inside The Nolah Evolution Comfort+

In a nutshell:

  • 2″ cooling ArcticTex™ quilted euro top with organic cotton cover
  • 2″ AirFoam™ HD
  • 1″ high-resilience foam
  • 8″ lower-gauge tri-zoned support coils
  • 1″ eco-friendly high-density foam
  • Fiberglass-free mattress

In more detail...

2″ Cooling ArcticTex™ Quilted Euro Top With Organic Cotton Cover

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ quilted euro top is designed to sleep cool and relieve pressure. Made of organic cotton and 2 inches of ArcticTex™, Nolah’s proprietary fiber, it channels the body’s heat away from its sleepers by conducting it down and outwards, without any of the harsh chemicals. The eurotop itself, provides extra heat conductivity and acts as the first layer for pressure relief. All around that top layer is an AirBreath™ Heat Escape Gusset, which is pierced with thousand of holes to let the warm air, heated by your body, escape out of the mattress.

2″ AirFoam™ HD

The second layer is 2 inches of AirFoam™ HD, an improved AirFoam we’ve come to love in all Nolah mattresses. In the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, it is denser than in the original Nolah Evolution 15, adding some support earlier on in the mattress, to meet the needs of heavier sleepers. Its purpose is still to provide excellent pressure relief, without trapping the heat, and while providing a highly durable foam to the mattress.

1″ High-Resilience Foam

The high-resilience foam in the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a transition layer with high responsiveness. It aligns your spine and provide support to the high pressure areas, while transitioning your body onto the firmer coils. It brings responsiveness, so you never feel stuck in the mattress.

8″ Lower-Gauge Tri-Zoned Support Coils

Nolah goes above and beyond with this Evolution Comfort+ mattress – they don’t just add 8 inches of coils – their coils are patented, tri-zoned for increased pressure relief, reinforced along the perimeter to strengthen the edge support, and made with lower-gauge steel. Those specific coils are only available in the Evolution Comfort+, as the lower gauge coils are thicker and offer more support and stability. They make the sleeping area feel wider and allows for an easy on-and-off the bed if you are used to sitting on the perimeter of your bed.

1″ Eco-Friendly High-Density Foam

The bottom layer in the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ provides support for the coils to compress into and adds life to the mattress. Unlike most other mattresses, it is made of recycled plant fibers, an eco-friendly option.

Fiberglass-Free Mattress

Fiberglass is used in many mattresses to pass the Flammability Test established by the U.S. CPSC. Unfortunately, fiberglass can pose serious health risks for sleepers when airborne. Nolah does not use any fiberglass in any of their mattresses, making it a very safe mattress to bring into your home.

Nolah Evolution 15 Sleep Tests

Everything we felt in one box

Firmness Temperature Maintenance Sleeping Style Bed Base
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is a very interesting mattress from a firmness standpoint. It is built to give target support, so that sleepers of all weights receive support where they need it, without compromising the softness and plushness associated with luxury mattresses. We rated the firmness a 7 out of 10, which makes it medium-firm (an average mattress is around 6.5/10). It is the right combo of plush and firm, ideal for heavier sleepers who like a plush pillow top!
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ sleeps 100% temperature-neutral. Its layers of foam are engineered to maintain a cool body temperature, by allowing your body to self-regulate its own temperature. This Nolah mattress cover wicks away the heat emitted by your body and channels it down into its quilted foam and outward through the AirBreath™ Heat Escape Gusset. We felt cool throughout the night and at no point did it feel like heat was trapped underneath or around our bodies.
The cover of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ mattress cannot be washed. You can spot clean the mattress with mild detergent, clear water, and a cloth. Try blotting the stain, instead of rubbing it, and tend to the stain as quickly as possible.
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is designed with heavier sleepers in mind. It is engineered to provide support to sleepers up to 1,000 lbs (total weight of both sleepers, if the bed is shared). Because of its combination of firm support and plushness, we recommend it to heavier side-sleepers and to heavier back-sleepers who prefer gentle contouring and a little plushness in their mattress. We found it too soft for heavier-weight stomach-sleepers.
The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ mattress can be laid on any flat surface: flat platform beds, slatted beds, boxsprings or foundation, adjustable beds, or even the ground.

Detailed Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Review Conclusion

Nolah has developed a beautiful mattress for heavier-sleepers. This spinoff on their Nolah Evolution 15 shows their dedication to offering great-quality sleep to all body types, sleeping needs, and preferences.

It is 14 inches of engineered cool sleep, spine-aligning and high-pressure-point support, and deep pressure relief. The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is the perfect mattress for heavier sleepers who sleep hot, sleep on their sides or backs, and prefer gentle contouring and a little plushness. It provides hip and shoulder relief through its 5 top inches of foam, as well as targeted pressure relief and support, thanks to its 8 inches of lower-gauge tri-zoned coils.

Let’s look at how all of the pieces come together in the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ and what that means for your rest and sleeping experience.

Who Is Nolah?

Nolah calls itself a “sleep technology company.” It is an online bed-in-a-box company that launched in 2015. All of their products are designed in Denver, CO, and made in the USA. Yet, they are able to keep their prices down and pass on their savings to their consumers – you!

Nolah’s aim is to create tomorrow’s mattress. After realizing that latex was invented in the 1920’s and that the memory foam we still use in mattresses today, had not evolved since the 1970’s, they decided to design superior mattresses by leveraging the latest technologies.

AirFoam™ was born. The Nolah AirFoam™ is 100% temperature neutral, as it does not contain viscoelastic chemicals commonly found in memory foam. It sleeps so cool that it does not require the use of cooling gels in its layers, and has been scientifically-proven to be more durable and provide more pressure relief than its older sister, the memory foam. You will find AirFoam™ in the Nolah Original, Signature, and Evolution.

In August 2021, Nolah came out with its first natural Talalay Latex mattress and added a kid Latex mattress as well – the Nolah Nurture 10 – which is flippable to grow with the child!! The Nolah Natural uses 11 inches of natural, organic, and recycled materials to protect your body and our planet.

Lastly, Nolah cuts the middle man and truly passes on the savings to its buyers, with all Nolah Original 10″ mattresses well below $1,000 after discount and Signature 12″ mattresses in the low to mid-$1,000 range in larger sizes, it has come out with a luxury hybrid mattress – the Evolution – in November 2020, priced in the mid-$1,000 range after discounts, and the natural Latex Nolah Natural in August 2021, priced a little lower.

What Is Inside The Nolah Evolution Comfort+?

The  Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is made of 6 layers and uses patented materials you will only find in Nolah mattresses. All engineered to work with one another and keep you cool at night, while deeply releasing those pressure points and leaving you rested and rejuvenated after your night of sleep. So what’s truly hiding inside the 14 inches of Nolah Evolution Comfort+?

Organic Cotton Mattress Cover + Quilted Euro Top (2 inches)

The mattress cover is made of organic cotton, making it an ultra-soft and breathable layer to lay your body on. The organic cotton draws the extra heat away from your body and allows for a comfier and cooler sleep. Right underneath are 2 inches of high-thermal conductivity ArcticTex™ euro-top, drawing the excess heat emitted by your resting body further down, and distributing it down and outward to create a cool and comfortable sleep.

That top layer provides a soft sleeping surface, reminiscent of the luxury hotel pillow tops. It is quilted and gives all the feels of luxurious sleep. Its perimeter is covered with a 2″ AirBreath™ Heat Escape Gusset, which further helps your body’s heat exit the top layer of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, as it gets pulled by the high-thermal conductivity quilting.

Cooling AirFoam™ HD (2 inches)

Below that, come 2 inches of Nolah’s very own, and improved, cooling AirFoam™ HD. In the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, the Nolah AirFoam™ HD is denser than other Nolah mattresses’ AirFoam™. It is designed to elevate support and pressure relief for heavier body. In the Nolah Evolution Comfort+, it does three things:

– it provides incredible pressure relief on an extra 2 inches, ensuring that no pressure is applied to your hip and shoulder areas, and you don’t wake up with pains and aches from pressure. That pressure relief also supports the proper alignment of your spine from neck to romp

– its engineered sag resistance means that it is easy for you to move around. There is no feeling of getting stuck and you will not need to deploy extra effort to toss and turn. That responsiveness also helps in providing support to your low-pressure areas (legs, arms, back), as those should lay a few inches above your hips and shoulders

– using open-cell technology, the Nolah AirFoam™ HD is highly breathable, allowing for air exchange. It does not trap the heat, rather lets it escape and allows for cool air to rise up to your body. That helps your body auto-regulate its own temperature for a truly temperature-neutral sleep

The Nolah AirFoam™ HD is a highly durable foam, adding life to your mattress and contributing to Nolah’s ability to offer a limited lifetime warranty on their mattresses.

High-Resilience Foam (1 inch)

The 1 inch of high-resilience foam below, brings a highly durable and supportive foam to start transferring your body into the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ support system. If brings support to the high-pressure areas, which have already sunk into the first 4 inches of foams.

High-Density Foams (1 inch)

The high-density foam acts as a transition layer, gently easing the sleeper into the coil layer. It it responsive, to ensure the body does not get stuck in the high-resilience foam above.

Lower-Gauge HDMax™ Tri-Zone™ Coils

Those coils are 8 inches deep and divided into 3 zones to intensify the balance between pressure relief and spinal support. With a reinforced perimeter (firmer coils around the edge of the mattress), you will get the feeling of a wider sleeping surface, and be able to get in and out of bed with ease. If you are someone who likes sitting on the edge of his/her bed, this perimeter will prevent the sides from sagging.

This coil layer is fairly different from the original Nolah Evolution’s coils. They are made of lower-gauge steel, which are thicker and provide extra strength and stability. This is the ideal layer in a mattress designed for heavier folks, as it provides the exact support needed to align the spine. This coil layer allows for the support of up to 1,000 lbs of combined sleeper weight.

Lastly, the coils allow air to flow through the mattress, cooling the upper foam layers, while nearly canceling all motion transfer.

High-Density Plant-Based Foam

The bottom-most layer is 1 inch of high-density foam that give a gentle base for the coils to compress into, while adding life to the Nolah Evolution Comfort+. While most mattresses have that bottom inch of foam, Nolah created a foam from recycled plant fibers, turning the layer into an eco-friendly one.

How Does The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Sleep?

Firmness

The Nolah Evolution mattress sleeps a little firmer than the average mattress. We are ranking it about a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale (the average mattress is a 6 to 6.5). Heavier sleepers require a some extra support to keep the body in a spine-neutral position, and this firmness is the right mix of firmness and plushness, to be comfortable and contouring, without compromising on support.

Sleeping Style

We recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort + to heavier sleepers who sleep hot, and are looking for a mattress that can help their bodies auto-regulate their body temperature for temperature-neutral sleep.

In terms of sleeping position, we think this is a fantastic mattress for heavier side-sleepers. It provides enough pressure relief in the hip and shoulder areas to allow for an aligned spine, and has just the right amount of plushness and contouring, as typically enjoyed by side-sleepers.

We think that heavier-weight back-sleepers with a preference for softer mattresses will do really well on the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ mattress as well. If this is you, you will enjoy mild contouring and cozy softness before hitting the support your body needs when sleeping on your back.

We do not recommend the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ to stomach-sleepers, unless you are a low-weight stomach sleeper. Heavier stomach-sleepers will not get the support they need to sleep in a healthy position on this mattress. If your partner is a stomach-sleeper under 150 lbs, s/he should do just fine, as long as s/he does not have a preference for firm mattresses.

Temperature

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ does not require the use of any cooling gel, plugged-in mechanism, or harsh chemicals, to provide a consistent night of cool sleep.

The Nolah AirFoam™ HD is denser than the AirFoam you will find in the original Nolah Evolution 15, but is still engineered with an open-cell technology that lets air exchange hot for cool. The euro top cover furthers the cooling sensation in the mattress, using a proprietary fiber that efficiently conducts the heat away from the body, while the coils allow cool air to flow through the mattress and up to the upper foams.

You can expect the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ to sleep cool throughout the night, even in hot climates.

Motion Transfer

The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ reacted really well to motion transfer, thanks to its top 6 inches foams and individually-pocketed coils at its core. I do not expect a partner to wake you up at night from his/her movements. This mattress does a great job at isolating motion.

Does The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Contain Fiberglass?

Nolah confirms not using any fiberglass in any of their mattresses or bedding. Their company statement states that: “Nolah is committed to our customers’ comfort and safety, and all our mattresses are 100 percent fiberglass-free. Rigorous testing and strict certifications demonstrate the safety of all materials used in our mattresses.”

Fiberglass has become a big topic in recent years, as more and more sleepers notice serious health side effects when fiberglass particles from their mattress, become airborne. Fiberglass has been a cheap way for mattress companies to pass the U.S. CPSC Flammability test, without requiring the use of harsh chemicals. While better than chemicals, fiberglass should be avoided whenever possible. We love that Nolah goes the extra step and does not include it in its mattresses.

How Do I Care For The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress?

The cover of the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is not removable and cannot be thrown in the washing machine. The best way to tend to a stain is to use water, a mild detergent, and blot the stain with a cloth. Do not rub the stain as you’d risk making it larger. A gentle blot on fresh stains should help you clean them up. For blood stains, consult this article.

Is The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Worth The Price?

We hope that this Nolah Evolution Comfort+ review shows how much there is to love about this mattress designed for heavier sleepers. The R&D going into the foams, the quality of products used, the lack of fiberglass, the lifetime warranty, the fact that it is made in the USA, and the special attention given to the materials to support the needs of heavier folks, make the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ a luxury mattress.

With the steep discounts available (don’t forget to use our discount code for an extra $50 OFF!), you are getting a queen-size U.S.-made mattress for under $2,000. It is definitely on the luxury level of mattresses, but we believe that you pay for what you get in a mattress, and this Nolah mattress is priced right.

In our opinion, the Nolah Evolution Comfort+ is worth the price as we rank it in the luxurious mattress category. You are getting a beautiful mattress and supportive a team of U.S.-based employees pouring their lives and souls into handcrafted a superb mattress in Colorado!

How Much Does The Nolah Evolution Comfort+ Mattress Weigh?

Depending on the size you purchase, the Nolah Evolution mattress weighs anywhere between 70 and 139 lbs.

  • Twin: 71 lbs
  • Twin XL: 71 lbs
  • Full: 96 lbs
  • Queen: 107 lbs
  • King: 147 lbs
  • Cal. King: 141 lbs

How Does The Nolah Return Policy Work?

While some might criticize Nolah’s return policy, I think it is a smart one. Getting used to a new mattress can take some time, especially if you switch to foam from a previous pillow-top for example.

Nolah has a 120-night at-home sleep trial. In other words, it allows free returns within 120 days if you are unhappy with your Nolah Evolution mattress. But returns aren’t allowed until after you have passed a 30-night testing period. Nolah asks that you give their mattress a full night of sleep before returning it, and I agree that it could take a couple of weeks for your body to adapt to a new sleeping shape.

If, after 30 days, you are still unhappy or uncomfortable with your Nolah mattress, you have until 120 days to return it, free of charge, no questions asked.
