The Helix Midnight mattress stands at 11.5 inches tall and is crafted with multiple layers, each serving a distinct purpose to enhance comfort and support.
Cooling Top Cover
Sleepers can choose between two top cover options:
Breathe Knit Cover: Offering a light stretch, promoting breathability and a soft touch, this is the cover we tested on the Helix Midnight. We found it soft and comfortable, with just the right amount of stretch to isolation as much motion as possible when one of the partners moves in bed.
GlacioTex™ Cooling Pillow Top ($300 premium): Designed to dissipate heat, ensuring a cooler sleep surface.
Memory Plus Foam
The top foam layer in the Helix Midnight is a proprietary foam blend, unique to Helix Sleep, and providing unique, comforting pressure relief, contouring to the body’s curves to alleviate pressure points.
This is a great top layer, giving side-sleepers the pressure relief they need in their hip and shoulder areas, for maximum comfort. It also provides back sleepers with mild and cozy contouring for more comfort.
Helix Responsive Foam
A medium-feel layer engineered to cradle and contour the body, offering optimal support and comfort comes next. This layer provides some support to the lighter parts of the body, while providing deep pressure relief for the areas that require extra relief (usually hips and shoulders).
The main purpose of this layer, however, is to make movement easy. The responsiveness of the foam makes it easier to toss and turn, and prevents the feeling of feeling stuck in the foam, which often comes with memory foam.
Transition Layer
The last foam layer in the Helix Midnight, is a firmer responsive foam, which serves as a transition before the thicker and firmer coils. It provides ergonomic support and cushioning with a medium IFD (Indentation Force Deflection) for balanced firmness and transition into the supportive coils below.
Wrapped Coils
For its main support layer, the Helix Midnight uses up to 1,000 individually wrapped coils that adapt to body movements, enhancing support and limiting motion transfer. The reinforced lengthwise sides bolster edge support, allowing full utilization of the mattress surface for side-to-side sleeping and the impression of sleeping area about 20% wider than with regular coils.
DuraDense Foam
Serving as the foundation, this bottom high-density foam layer ensures base support and adds durability to the entire mattress structure, as well as strong outlet for the coils to decompress into.

We recommend the Helix Midnight for all side sleepers, as it provides the right amount of pressure relief and support to healthily align the spine. Back sleepers under 180 lbs will also do well if they have a preference for slightly softer, contouring mattresses, without giving up spinal support, but the mattress may be too soft for heavier individuals or stomach sleepers. |

Firmness & Sleeping Styles
We rated the Helix Midnight a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, which is just a bit softer than the average mattress (industry average is 6.5). This balance works well for several sleeping positions:
Side Sleepers: The mattress excels in providing pressure relief for side sleepers, cushioning the shoulders and hips effectively and providing deep pressure relief before hitting the firmer layers for some well-deserved support.
Back Sleepers under 180 lbs: Back sleepers weighing under 180 lbs will find enough healthy support to maintain proper spinal alignment without excessive sinkage, and mild contouring for a cozy sleep. Heavier back sleepers will benefit from a firmer sleeping surface, however.
Stomach Sleepers: While the mattress offers moderate support, stomach sleepers, especially those over 130 lbs, would require a firmer surface to prevent hip dip and potential lower back strain. Look at mattresses rated 7.5 to 8/10.
Temperature Regulation
We have found the Helix Midnight to sleep temperature neutral.
The hybrid design, combining breathable covers and individually wrapped coils, promotes airflow, aiding in heat dissipation. While the mattress maintains a neutral temperature, it doesn’t impart a distinct cooling sensation, which in most cases, is good enough, unless you are a notorious hot sleepers. In that case, look into adding a cooling system from this list to your bed.
Motion Transfer
Motion isolation is a critical consideration for couples or those sharing a bed. The Helix Midnight performs commendably in this aspect, with its Memory Plus Foam layer absorbing movements and minimizing disturbances caused by a partner’s motions.

Maintaining the Helix Midnight mattress is pretty straightforward and guarantees years of use, if you follow those easy steps:
Rotation: Rotate the mattress 180 degrees every 3 to 6 months to promote even wear. Never flip it, as it is built with a precise order of layers.
Protection: We always recommend protecting your mattress investment with a high-quality waterproof mattress protector. It is your first line of defense against accidental spills, stains, and allergens.
Cleaning: In case of a stain, tend to it as early as possible and spot clean it with a cloth, mild detergent, and water as needed (blotting the stain works best). Avoid saturating the mattress with moisture to prevent damage, never rub the stain to prevent further spreading, and let the mattress fully dry before replacing your sheets.
