The Clax Shopping Cart hit the American market in late 2022, and we are so glad it did. This foldable cart is so versatile, it is hard to fit it in just one category. It is a German-designed and engineered lightweight, compact, and easy to maneuver cart that is small but mighty. Holding up to 133 lbs / 60 kgs of total weight, it has unlimited applications. We’ll look at several in the article below.

Foldable Cart
The Clax Shopping Cart is a collapsible (or foldable) cart made of aluminium and polypropylen-copolymer for stability and longevity. It folds and unfolds in about 2 seconds, from the push of a button, so you never have to fight to get it open and standing.
The Clax foldable cart, wihout crates, weighs 16.7 lbs (6.9 kgs) and measures 22 x 40 x 36 in (LxWxH) unfolded.
One or 2 Crates
You can order the Clax Shopping Cart with 1 or 2 crates. You can always order more crates from Clax as needed. The bottom crate can withhold up to 88 lbs (40 kgs) of merchandise / tools / groceries / you-name-it, while the upper crate can withhold up to 44 lbs (20 kgs) of materials.
Each crate has a capacity of 12 gallons and can be folded to be stored easily. They weigh 3.5 lbs (1.6 kgs).
Sturdy Wheels
The rubber wheels on the Clax trolley are detachable and can be stored within the cart when folded, to save space. They are built to allow the user to pull the cart up small stairs or sidewalks. Sturdy, they were designed to handle all sorts of outdoor surfaces.
Break System
We love the break system, safely allowing you to load/unload your things into the Clax shopping cart, without it rolling away.

Think of a regular shopping cart that turns like a high-end stroller! The Clax Trolley has 360 rubber wheels, that make it very easy to push on most surfaces. It turns from the push of a hand and has breaks to ensure you can load and unload, as well as leave unattended, safely. It is also very light and folds small enough to fit in car trunks, behind doors, attached to a garage walls, inside your pantry, or even stacked on the ground. |
This is where the German engineering shines! This family-owned business has been engineering problem-solving products since 1924 and their name stands on the door. They stand behind their products and the reviews speak for themselves. With only 4 and 5-star reviews from real customers on Amazon, you can rest assured that the quality is there. While Clax is new to the U.S. market, it was launched in Germany over 25 years ago and won the "Product of the Year" award from the Design Center Stuttgart in 2001. We loaded it to its 132-lb limit and it rolled without a problem, and took it up and down the curb, while loaded, without an issue. We also liked that the top crate is secured to its base with ties. While it looks small, its aluminum construction is made to withhold daily use, and is built for the outdoors - so don't hesitate, your imagination is the limit! |
Because the Clax Cart is so versatile, it can be used for any application you can think of. We loved that you can use both levels, or just one if you push a bulkier items. It can be used with, and without a crate. You can even put your own boxes or containers on it, if you wish. Some applications we can think of: groceries, home improvement store, kids ball games, multi-pet walking, house renovations, library books, car tires / car cleaning products, school pick up, farmers market, pick-your-own fruits, household cleaning day, catering / potlucks, garden work, etc, etc. If you can think it (within 132 lbs, 88 lbs if using only the lower level), you can do it! |
Clax Shopping Cart Prices & Discounts
Note that, if you are in the U.S. or Canada, the Clax Trolley is only available on Amazon, as Clax uses their warehouse to store their products and fulfill their orders.
You currently have 5 choices in terms of colors: black, grey, green, pink, and red. The color goes into the wheels and select plastic parts, giving it its own personality. Have fun with it.
When it comes to the selection of products offered, you have three choices. The base is the same, the difference between the 1 crate and the 2 crates, is how many crates you will receive with your order. You can choose from:

There are currently a couple of promotions happening on the Amazon store, with a sale going on, as well as tickable coupon box for a price reduction at checkout on the Clax with 1 Crate. If you have an Amazon Business account, you will see a slightly lower price on the Clax with 1 Crate as well. If you are in Canada, you can get the Clax with 1 Crate, and individual Crates. At the moment, we are not seeing the Clax with 2 Crates available to the Canadian market.
We think the Clax Shopping Cart is priced fairly. It is the only cart of such quality on the market today, so hard to compare, but we believe it is worth spending a little more, for a quality product that will last you years.

We are very impressed with our test of the Clax Shopping Cart. The attention to detail and quality truly shows in this German-made and designed collapsible cart.
We have found it incredibly easy to unfold and maneuver, even at its max weight capacity. We compared it to a regular shopping cart with the high-quality stroller smoothness and direction control. And then of course, it is incredibly easy to store, as it folds into a light, small, and flat rectangle, ideal for small spaces, pantries, car trunks, garages, offices, broom closets, and more.
Another thing that makes life easy when using the Clax Shopping Cart, is how easy it is to go from store to fridge (if you use if for shopping). Use the Clax Trolley as your grocery or home improvement cart. At checkout, skip the plastic bags (the planet will thank you!), and put your merchandise right in your Clax Crates. When you get to your car, load the loaded Crates in the trunk and fold your Clax. Once at home, simply bring your Crates full of merchandise to your kitchen, closest, garage! No more grabbing plastic bag handles and fighting with kids not bringing all of their stuff out of the car. It’s all in your Crates and goes from store to home with a breeze.

Who Is Clax?
There is always something very special about purchasing a product from a family-owned company. The Rauschenberger family established their company near Stuttgart, Germany, in 1924, and is in its fourth generation of ownership and management.
From tools to ladder joints and radiators, the company has been focusing on Clax, their collapsible carts since the early 2000’s. Focusing on one winning product has allowed them to perfect the quality and earn industry awards, including the “Product of the Year” award by the Design Center Stuttgart in 2001. Today, with over 20 years of experience and improvements, they have taken their award-winning multi-function cart to the European and North American markets.

What Is Inside The Clax Shopping Cart?
When you receive the Clax Shopping Cart, you will be impressed with the design and German engineering. It comes pre-assembled as a “one-piece” collapsible design, and you only need to click on its four wheels.
Lightweight Foldable Cart
The cart itself, is made of aluminum and polypropylen-copolymer. It gives it the sleek and elegant design, with the added benefits of lightweight and durability.
The Clax Trolley comes with 2 levels. The top one folds backwards to allow you to stack on tall boxes or bulkier items on the lower rack, if needed.
A break allows you to safely load and unload your Clax Shopping Cart, and to ensure it does not move if you leave it unattended.
We found the Clax to be surprisingly sturdy and stable, given its size and weight. We were also impressed with how quickly it unfolded into position, and how well it rolled, even at max capacity.
Unfolded, the Clax Trolley measures 21.65″L x 35.04″W x 40.35″H. Folded, it is only, a very impressive, 4.33″H, with dimensions of: 18.5″L x 26.38″W x 4.33″H, easily fitting behind doors and in smaller spaces such as pantries, closets, trunks, etc. Note that the Clax Cart only weighs 16.7 lbs, making it easy to stow away, even for most senior citizens.
One Or 2 Crates
Note that you do not have to use Crates on the Clax Shopping Cart. When you order the Clax, it does come with 1 Crate, as a standard purchase. You can also upgrade to the Clax with 2 Crates for only a $7 upgrade (which we highly recommend doing!).
The Clax Crates are a wonderful addition to the foldable cart. Not only are the designed to the exact specifications of the Clax, but they are light, sturdy, and fold flat! We really liked the belt on the upper Clax tray to secure the upper Crate!
Weighing only 2.8 pounds, each Crate has a capacity of up to 12 gallons. When opened, the Crate measures 21.26″L x 14.96″W x 10.26″H. When collapsed flat, it is very small at only 21.26″L x 14.96″W x 2.36“H.
Those Crates are super convenient and allow you to transport the contents from store to the car, to your home, with nothing more than just carrying it from one place to the next. Save on plastic bags and carry more things at once.
The Crates are also tall enough to keep your belongings secure on rougher terrain (think sports fields, stairs, etc.)!
Sturdy Wheels
The wheels are the only thing that you need to click onto the Cart when you receive your Clax Shopping Cart. Note that you can leave them on when folding your Clax, if your storage space allows! If you need to remove them, they nicely store inside the cutouts made for them, under the bottom tray!
We found the wheels to be sturdy, turn extremely well, without requiring effort (one-handed driving), and to do well on most terrains. We’d love to see wider wheels for a beach cart application or to roll easier on grass, but for most applications, the wheels are incredible. Using solid rubber on plastic rims, they rolls well and silently indoors and outdoors!
How Does The Clax Shopping Cart Perform?
Ease Of Use
You will quickly notice how easy it is to use the Clax Shopping Cart!
Unfold it with one hand in a simple motion, from the push of a button. It takes mere seconds to get it out of the trunk and into open position – a few more seconds if you need to click in the wheels. But if you have the space, keep the wheels on when folding it.
Ease To Maneuver
A trolley needs to do two things well: roll and turn! During our testing, we ran rolling and turning tests on a loaded Clax (up to the 132 lbs (60 kgs) and empty Clax, to ensure it stability and easy to maneuver.
We were able to move and turn using just one hand, thanks to the thick rubber wheels that swivel effortlessly. It reminded us of those luxury strollers that move with no effort from the pusher. More importantly, we found the ride very quiet! I promise you, this is not your grocery store shopping cart!
While we are on the grocery store topic… we loved having our own shopping cart – clean from home and into the grocery store, no wiping down and gross things at the bottom where our precious produce are meant to sit.
Looking at the breaks, they held our fully-loaded Clax without a problem, even on incline. We thought it was a great addition when loading bulkier and/or heavier products onto the cart.
Sturdiness / Quality
Quality is what you are purchasing when buying a Clax Shopping Cart. The trolley has been perfected over the last 20+ years into what it is today, with constant improvements on the horizon. We truly believe that there is no other product like it on the market.
You can load up to 132 lbs of merchandise, given that you use both the upper and lower trays. If you use only the lower tray, note that its weight limit is 88 lbs. Even fully loaded, the Clax was very stable and easy to maneuver around.
We liked the clip attached to the upper tray to keep the Crate in place. It made the upper Crate stable and we never felt like it would fall or get out of place.
Overall, fantastic sturdiness (can be surprising when you first see the lightweight, smaller structure Clax) and great aluminum construction, high quality wheels, overall a beautifully-engineered collapsible cart.

There are so many applications for so many people and industries, that it is impossible for me to name them all. Essentially, whatever your needs within the weight requirements, you will make it work!
Just typing this, I pictured a make-up artist on a movie set, moving her things around from actor to actor… the uses are endless. Some of our favorites are:

- walking pets
- house renovations (ever moved paint, brushes, tapes, wires, towels, drill, nails, etc. from room to room?)

Yes, the Clax Shopping Cart was designed to be used outdoors. Its wheels are built to gently go up small stairs and curbs, and its aluminum frame will withstand weather without a problem. Feel confident using your Clax outdoors, as well as indoors. Hose it down and let it air dry as needed.
