Similarities

  • Both mattresses are hybrid mattresses, with a thick layer of coils and several layers of foam above
  • They are both doing an excellent job at aligning spine and bones during the night, though using different designs to do so
  • Both the Nolah Evolution 15 and the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid are built with hot sleepers in mind. While they use different technologies and materials, both of their mattress covers are designed to pull extra body heat away from your body. Both are a good choice if you need to bring cool into your sleep
  • Both mattresses are a good option for back and side sleepers
  • Both isolate motion very well, making them a great option for couples
  • The mattresses feel very luxurious and are on the mid to high price range

Differences

The Nolah Evolution 15 and the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid are fairly different when it comes to materials used and who we think they are a good fit for.

  • The first major difference between the two mattresses is very visible upon receiving your mattress. Saatva mattresses are not compressed and do not qualify as mattress-in-a-box. Saatva believes that compressing mattresses reduces its useful life and can break some of the mattress components, releasing fiberglass and other chemicals. They believe their mattresses are safer and offer a long life, since not compressed
  • Upon receiving your Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress, you are benefiting from free white-glove service – a person will set up your Saatva mattress in your room and you can choose a free mattress removal service for your old mattress. The Nolah Evolution 15 is shipped in a box and left at your front door. You will carry it to your room of choice and unroll it to expand into its full size
  • While both mattresses offer targeted spinal support, the Nolah Evolution 15 uses tri-zoned steel coils to provide more support in the lumbar area, while the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid uses patented Lumbar Zone Quilting and a 1/2-inch quilted lumbar crown to give support to the same area
  • If you prefer a firmer mattress, the Nolah Evolution 15 will offer a firmer sleeping surface, ideal for stomach sleepers. The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid comes in only one firmness level, which we fit between the Nolah Luxury Firm and the Nolah Firm
  • The Nolah Evolution 15 offers 6 inches of pressure-relieving foams with an increasing degree of bounce and transition into the harder coils, making it ideal for side sleepers and those who enjoy contouring comfort prior to hitting the more supportive layers. The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid offers 4 inches of pressure-relieving foams, giving you a little less pressure-relieving, hence a slight firmer feel compared to Nolah’s Luxury Firm mattress
  • Thanks to its available in difference firmnesses, the Nolah Evolution is a mattress than can work for all sleepers
  • We find the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid to provide a firmer perimeter thanks to its high-density foam surrounding the coils, making it feel like a wider mattress
  • While both mattresses use organic cotton in their covers, Saatva treats its cover with a proprietary Guardin® botanical antimicrobial treatment, which naturally prevents the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew
  • Your at-home sleep trial is a whole year for Saatva and 120 nights for Nolah
  • Understanding that discounts change throughout the year, both mattresses are priced similarly as a Queen. The Saatva is about $100 more expensive as a King, but $150 cheaper as a Twin

Nolah Evolution 15 vs. Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid - Detailed Comparison

Let’s take a look at both mattresses on a more detailed level!

Firmness / Feel

Nolah Evolution 15

When ordering the Nolah Evolution hybrid mattress, select your desired firmness level.

Plush: 5/10.
The Plush version of the Nolah Evolution feels soft and very plush. If you like sinking in to your mattress and feeling contoured, the Plush is for you.

Luxury Firm: 6/10. A tad bit softer than your average mattress, the Luxury Firm gives you a nice blend of spinal support and soft contouring. It is ideal for those enjoying a cozy night of sleep without compromising on healthy support.

Firm: 8/10. If sinking in is not your thing, the Firm Nolah Evolution gives you a “sleep on top” of the mattress feel, perfect for heavier folks, back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and those suffering for back and neck pain.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is available in one firmness level, which we rated a 7/10, placing it a bit above your average mattress.

The Saatva mattress provides a cozy 1/2-inch quilted mattress cover, on top of 3.5 inches of pressure-relieving foams, which gives its sleeper a comfortable sink that comfortably contours the body and lulls you to sleep.

The cover is engineered to provide extra support around the mid-third of the mattress, supporting your hip/lumbar section and ensuring proper spinal alignment. This is done through the use of a Patented Lumbar Zone® Quilting & gel-infused memory foam, that work together to help relieve back pain by providing extra support in that area.

The pocketed coils underneath provide more support to the entire body, including those high-pressure areas, adding a little firmness to the overall mattress.

With only 4 inches of foam above the coils, you are getting a slight sinks, perfect for those looking for a supportive mattress without giving up on a mild and cozy sink and contouring.

Materials

Nolah Evolution 15

Nolah’s star is the proprietary AirFoamICE, which is foam boasting incredible cooling properties, active response, and gently-contouring pressure relief. It is an impressive material that is built to be 300% more durable than memory foam and draw your excess body heat into the depth of the mattress and outwards through the surrounding gusset, so the mattress never traps your body heat.

Its mattress cover is an organic cotton + ArcticTex cover, which is soft, breathable, thick, and heat dissipating, drawing your body heat away for you. The euro top cover is quilted with 2″ of high thermal conducting and highly breathable foam, giving your all of the luxury feels and your first 2 inches of cool-sleeping pressure relief.

Around the perimeter of the Nolah mattress, you will find the black proprietary 2″-thick AirBreath Heat Escape gusset. This technology lets your body heat, which is drawn by the upper cool foams, escape outwards into your room, instead of getting stuck in the mattress, for a cooler night of sleep!

Several layers of increasingly firm foams come next, transitioning your body into the firmer encased coils. Starting with 2″ of AirFoamICE, which, as described above, is infused with graphite and pulls your excess body heat from your body – a huge plus for hot sleepers, but not cold sleeping if you are a cold sleeper.

Below are 2″ of supportive high-resilience foam, which provides support to your high-pressure points (hips and shoulders) under the first 4 inches of sink.

The last layer of foam before the coils are 1″ of transitional high-density foam, preparing your body for the firmer coils underneath, so you never feel of hear the coils, and to provide even more motion isolation, so you never feel your partner move either!

The 8″ of pocketed coils move independently from one another, ensuring that your moving partner does not wake you up. They are also reinforced around the perimeter for less sagging, as well a tri-zoned to provide the support each area of your body needs to sleep aligned and in a healthy position.

All foams are CertiPUR-US certified and the Nolah Evolution 15 is designed in Denver, CO and made in the USA.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress is made of 4 layers, starting with its organic cotton mattress cover. Organic cotton is known to sleep soft and cool, drawing excess body moisture from your body. Saatva treats the cover with a proprietary Guardin® botanical antimicrobial treatmentwhich adds a natural barrier to the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria. This is a safer sleeping surface for those dealing with allergies, asthma, and skin conditions.

You will find no fiberglass or chemical fire retardants in the Saatva mattress cover. Instead, natural materials such as natural plant-based thistle pulp and wool, create a barrier to flames.

The mattress cover uses a patented design to provide zoned support to the center of the body, which tends to be heavier and can suffer from misalignment. Thanks to a patented Lumbar Zone® Quilting, you are getting spinal alignment, no matter your preferred sleeping position.

The mattress cover is quilted with 1/2-inch of gel-infused memory foam, which is responsive so you don’t feel stuck in the mattress, and engineered to pull your body heat away from your body, to keep you cool at night.

The main pressure-relieving layer comes right below. The 1.5″ of AirCradle memory foam uses an open-cell technology (full of micro air pockets) to ensure airflow through the mattress – pulling your body heat down into the mattress, and letting fresh air rise up to your body.

Then come 8 inches of pocketed coils, which provide support and let more air flow through the mattress. We love the perimeter of high-density foam around the coils, which provide extra stability, limit the sagging, and give you the feel of a wider sleeping surface.

All foams are CertiPUR-US certified and the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is made in the USA.

Sleeping Styles

Nolah Evolution 15

The Nolah Evolution is designed to sleep comfortably for all kinds of sleepers since you can choose your firmness level.

Side sleepers: Side sleepers of all weights will enjoy sleeping on the Nolah Evolution. The Plush will work with lower-weight side sleepers, as well as those with a preference for a very soft mattresses. We recommend the Luxury Firm for most side sleepers. The Euro top provides the pressure relief side sleepers need, and the responsive AirFoam and coils provide the support needed to align the spine.

Back sleepers: We recommend the Luxury Firm or Firm for back sleepers, based on your preference for plushness. If you are a back sleepers with back pain or heavier weight, choose the Firm. If you prefer a gentle sink and extra contouring, go with the Luxury Firm.

Stomach sleepers: Stomach sleepers need to order the Firm Nolah Evolution. It will provide adequate support and the zoned coils will keep your hips aligned with the rest of your body. If you like very firm mattresses, or if you are a heavier weight stomach sleeper, the Firm might still be a little too soft. Its Euro top and first layers of AirFoam do provide a bit of plushness, and if you like very firm mattresses, you might still find it too soft

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is a medium-firm mattress and works best for those sleeping on their side and back.

Side sleepers: We recommend the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid for side sleepers under 220 lbs, or those who prefer a little more support / firmness. You will find that the mattress aligns your spine in a healthy manner if you choose the correct pillow for your neck. Heavier-weight side sleepers may want a slightly softer mattress to get a little more pressure relief in the shoulder and hip areas. Note that you are only getting 4 inches of pressure relief before your body hit the firmer coils.

Back sleepers: The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is an ideal mattress for back sleepers of all weights. The Lumbar Zone Quilting provides excellent lumbar support and helps to keep the spine in a healthy and aligned position. You will get all of the cozy plushness from the quilted mattress cover and find a very good balance of pressure relief and support in this mattress.

Stomach sleepers: We find the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid a little too soft for most stomach sleepers. If you are a stomach sleeper under 180 lbs and have a personal preference for soft and plush mattresses, you might find it comfortable. Most other stomach sleepers would find the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid too soft, which can create an unhealthy bend in your lower back.

Our Comparison Methodology

We personally sleep test every mattress and bedding on the website. We start with unboxing and laying the mattresses on slats, paying particular attention to the packaging, unrolling process, and any off-gassing let out by the mattress. We then sleep test the mattresses in every position, using a 130-lb tester and a 220-lb tester, to best understand how different body types feel while sleeping. Lastly, we use our industry knowledge and expertise, to interpret mattress feels and best fits, based on the combination of materials found inside the mattress.

We hope that you find those comparisons helpful in choosing the best mattress for you. We aim at writing reviews covering the aspects we would personally research in oder to make the best decision. If there is any outstanding question you have, please always feel free to reach out!
