DREAMCLOUD vs DREAMCLOUD PREMIER

Let's meet our two contestants: the DreamCloud vs DreamCloud Premier - two hybrid mattresses, accessibly priced, and providing a luxurious sleeping experience.

We often compare mattresses of different brands, however, when purchasing the DreamCloud mattress, you are recommended a $300 upgrade to the DreamCloud Premier, and many of you wonder whether the upgrade is worth paying for.

Both mattresses are very similar, each boasting 7 layers of coils and foams, 14 inches in thickness, and even sharing a cashmere euro top. The feel is different however, and we have sleep tested both to put them head-to-head.

Let’s take a look at what makes up each mattress, who we think they are good for, what makes them similar and different, and which one might be the best mattress for you.

DreamCloud vs DreamCloud Premier - Detailed Comparison

Let’s take a look at both mattresses on a more detailed level!

Firmness / Feel

DreamCloud

The DreamCloud uses a combination of certified memory foam layers and strengthened coils to achieve a slightly above-average firmness of 7/10. Note that industry mattress firmness average is 6.5/10.

The DreamCloud provides a cozy and slightly contouring pillowtop mattress cover, called Euro Top. It is made of 1.5 inches of soft, yet responsive, memory foam, which provides a thick and pressure-relieving layer to sink in as you first hit the mattress.

Underneath that quilted cashmere-blend cover, comes an inch of foam, which sole purpose is to provide pressure relief. Those 2.5 inches, put together, provide the pressure relief and cozy softness your body needs to not apply pressure to those high-pressure area in the hips and shoulders. It also provides that luxury-hotel sleeping experience, right from the comfort of your own home.

Underneath those two layers, come 2 inches of a denser and firmer transition foam. This is when your body starts hitting firmer materials, as this foam is engineered to properly align spine and bones, provide support to your high-pressure areas (i.e., hips and shoulders), and prevent you from feeling the steel coils underneath.

Lastly, the 8.5 inches of coils allow your body to lay in a spine-neutral position, providing healthy sleep after the pressure relief of the upper layers.

DreamCloud Premier

The DreamCoud Premier provides more pressure relief than the DreamCloud, due to an extra thick soft foam layer designed to provide more plush contouring than in the DreamCloud. The mix of foams and coils make the DreamCloud Premier a 6/10 on the firmness scale, a little softer than the average mattress.

The DreamCloud Premier has a total of 2 foam layers stitched into its cashmere-blend mattress cover, totaling 2 inches – or an extra half inch on the DreamCloud. Those two layers are made of soft, slightly less responsive, foams than in the DreamCloud, providing your body with extra softness, plushness, and contouring. The extra pressure relief works well for side-sleepers and those who prefer a softer mattress.

The firmer transition layer is similar in both mattresses, with 2 inches of a dense and firm foam that provides the support your bones and high-pressure areas need to lay in a healthy and aligned position.

Lastly, your body will find the thick 8.5 inches of coils that will further align its spine and provide a durable and supportive base to your mattress.

So while the DreamCloud Premier feels softer, it provides all of the support your body needs to lay in a healthy position.

Materials

DreamCloud

The DreamCloud is a 14″-thick hybrid mattress, using a combination of CertiPUR-US certified memory foams and coils to create a sleeping experience that is supportive, yet cozy and cushioning.

The first layer in the DreamCloud is its Euro top mattress cover. The cover itself, is made of a cashmere blend, which is not only very soft to the touch, but also highly breathable. It allows your skin moisture to be absorbed and dispersed, instead of heating up around you.

The luxurious-looking cloud-patterned stitch holds a 1.5″ layer of plush foam. That foam is designed to provide pressure relief and a light sink that is cozy and contouring. DreamCloud engineered that layer to be responsive as well, so you do not feel stuck in your mattress and you can easily toss and turn.

Then comes 1″ of pressure-relieving memory foam. That foam provides another inch of sink, proving pressure relief to your hip and shoulder areas, but with the added benefit of responsiveness, so the mattress helps you to move around. Responsiveness is the measurement of how quickly the foams spring back into their original position after you move. Thanks to that responsiveness, the DreamCloud has a slightly firmer feel than the DreamCloud Premier. That layer of foam is cooling gel infused, which helps pull your body’s extra heat and disperse it, so you don’t sleep in a pool of heat.

Underneath is 2″ of transition foam, which protects your body from sinking in too deep and feeling the coil layer. That foam is firmer and starts aligning your body in a healthy position.

Then comes a thick 8.5″ layer of reinforced coils. With a stronger perimeter, it allows sleepers to sleep from side to side, and gives the impression of a 20% wider sleeping surface. This is a great asset for couples sharing a bed! The purpose of the coils is to provide increased support to align your spine and joints, while providing plenty of space for air to flow through the mattress and reach up to the upper layers of foam.

Lastly, a very common 1″ of high-density foam is found below the coils, providing stability and durability to the DreamCloud mattress and giving an outlet for the coils to decompress into.

DreamCloud Premier

The DreamCloud Premier is a very similar mattress, reaching 14″ in thickness, using a combination of CertiPUR-US certified foams and coils.

Using the same cashmere-blend mattress cover, you will enjoy its extreme softness and breathability, which allows your body to sleep temperature-neutral and not feel surrounded by heat.

The DreamCloud Premier Euro top is thicker than the DreamCloud, with two 1″ layers of foam quilted into it. The first layer is 1″ of pressure-relieving memory foam, which gives your body a first inch of pressure relief, great especially for side sleepers who need a deeper sink of the shoulders and hips.

Quilted into the cashmere Euro top as well, is 1″ of supportive soft foam, which is the top layer in the DreamCloud. That memory foam is soft, yet responsive enough to not give you the feeling of being stuck in your mattress.

If you take a look at the DreamCloud, the top two layers are reverse. The firmer and more responsive foam comes first in the DreamCloud and second in the DreamCloud Premier, while the soft pressure-relieving foam (aka. the layer responsible for softness and sink) comes second in the DreamCloud, but first in the DreamCloud Premier. The responsive foam is also 0.5″ thicker in the DreamCloud, providing more support, hence a firmer feel.

The rest of the mattress is very similar to the DreamCloud, with the transition layer coming next. However, in the DreamCloud Premier, you will find a 2.5″ layer of firmer transition foam vs. 2″ in the DreamCloud. Since your body has sunk deeper into the upper foams, your high pressure area need to receive extra support, and DreamCloud wants to make sure you don’t feel the coils, hence the 2.5 inches that transition your body from soft foams to hard coils. That layer also provides support to your bones, spine, joints, and hips + shoulders, to ensure a straight spine over night.

Lastly, you will find the same 8.5″ of reinforced coils and the 1″ of high-density foam as in the DreamCloud Mattress.

Sleeping Styles

DreamCloud

The DreamCloud is designed to sleep comfortably for all kinds of sleepers since it provides a good balance between pressure relief and support.

Side sleepers: Side sleepers under 180 lbs will enjoy sleeping on the DreamCloud. The Euro top provides the pressure relief side sleepers need, and the responsive foams and coils provide the support needed to align the spine. Heavier side sleepers may hit the transition layer and coils a little too hard, potentially creating pressure in their hips and shoulders. The DreamCloud Premier may be a better option for them.

Back sleepers: Back sleepers of all weights should find the DreamCloud very comfortable, unless you have a personal preference of very firm or very soft mattresses. Back sleepers will enjoy a gentle sink and cozy contouring, as well as excellent spinal alignment from the bottom layers.

Stomach sleepers: Stomach sleepers under 200 lbs should find adequate support to keep their hips aligned with the rest of their body. If you like very firm mattresses, or if you are a heavier-weight stomach sleeper, you may find the DreamCloud a little too soft for your needs. Its Euro top and first layers of AirFoam do provide a bit of plushness, and if you like very firm mattresses, it may not quite fit the bill.

DreamCloud Premier

The DreamCloud Premier is a medium-soft mattress and works best side sleepers and most back sleepers.

Side sleepers: We recommend the DreamCloud Premier for side sleepers of all weights. You will find that the mattress aligns your spine in a healthy position if you choose the correct pillow for your neck.

Back sleepers: The DreamCloud Premier is a great mattress for back sleepers under 200 lbs, unless you have a personal preference for firm mattresses. The first foam layers offer soft contouring, while the lower layers provide excellent lumbar support and helps to keep the spine in a healthy and aligned position. Heavier-weight back sleepers may find that their hips dip a little too low, curving their spine in a way that creates pain when sustained.

Stomach sleepers: We find the DreamCloud Premier is too soft for most stomach sleepers. If you are a stomach sleeper under 180 lbs and have a personal preference for soft and plush mattresses, you might find it comfortable. Most other stomach sleepers would find the DreamCloud Premier too soft, which can create an unhealthy bend in your lower back.

Our Comparison Methodology

We personally sleep test every mattress and bedding on the website. We start with unboxing and laying the mattresses on slats, paying particular attention to the packaging, unrolling process, and any off-gassing let out by the mattress. We then sleep test the mattresses in every position, using a 130-lb tester and a 220-lb tester, to best understand how different body types feel while sleeping. Lastly, we use our industry knowledge and expertise, to interpret mattress feels and best fits, based on the combination of materials found inside the mattress.

We hope that you find those comparisons helpful in choosing the best mattress for you. We aim at writing reviews covering the aspects we would personally research in oder to make the best decision. If there is any outstanding question you have, please always feel free to reach out!
