Here’s a detailed breakdown of its composition:
Mattress Cover with Cooling Technology
The mattress features a soft, breathable cover designed to promote a cool sleeping environment. This cover is engineered to enhance airflow and dissipate heat, contributing to overall sleep comfort.
We found it soft and comfortable, with the right amount of stretch to ensure limited motion transfer when a partner moves on their side of the bed.
T&N Flex™ Foam
Beneath the cover lies the T&N Flex foam, a highly breathable, fast-recovery foam that adapts to your body weight. It firms up as you settle in, providing responsive comfort tailored to your unique shape.
We found it to nicely and evenly spread our body weight across the surface of the mattress, after the initial deep-sink feel. We also appreciated its responsiveness, which allowed our bodies to never feel stuck in the upper foam layers, making movement easy and providing a comfortable, yet contouring, sleeping experience.
T&N Release™ Foam
This ventilated foam layer enhances pressure relief, ensuring all-night comfort by reducing pressure points and promoting airflow. It is designed for the body to not overheat in the first 5 inches of pressure relief inside the Tuft & Needle Original Hybrid mattress.
T&N Adaptive® Foam
The T&N Adaptive foam is a breathable, open-cell foam infused with cooling gel and heat-conducting graphite. It’s designed to wick heat away from the body, while offering contouring pressure relief and responsive support.
The multiple layers of open-cell foams do a really good job at staying cool and circulating air throughout the night.
Transition Layer
A transition layer adds some stability and a little firmness to the mattress, transitioning the body from the upper pressure-relieving foams to the firmer coils below.
Individually-Wrapped Coils and Base Foam
A thick layer of foam-encased, individually-wrapped coils help isolate motion for optimal motion control. The coils are individually-wrapped to prevent motion from transferring from one coil to the next, from one partner to the one sleeping next to him/her!

Stomach Sleepers: Not recommended—we find it too soft to keep the hips elevated, potentially leading to discomfort or lower back strain. We found the Tuft & Needle Origina Hybrid to sleep cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses as it did not trap body heat and instead provided temperature-neutral sleep, those who tend to sleep hot might still prefer a mattress with more advanced cooling technologies, or adding a cooling device to their setup.
Motion Transfer
The hybrid design of the Tuft & Needle Original Hybrid offers very decent motion isolation.
