Nolah Original Hybrid review

Composition & Certifications

The Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress is constructed using a combination of advanced foam layers and supportive coils, all wrapped in a sustainable cover. Each layer plays a specific role in enhancing comfort and durability.

Botanic Origin Tencel Cover

This is the first layer touching your body as you lay down on your Nolah Original Hybrid mattress. Designed with sustainability in mind, you will find it soft and cuddling, allowing airflow for cooler sleep.

  • Sustainable: The mattress’s outermost layer is crafted from Tencel, a fabric derived from sustainable botanic sources. It aligns with eco-conscious values and reduces the mattress’s environmental footprint.

  • Breathable: Tencel’s natural breathability keeps you cool throughout the night, making it ideal for hot sleepers.

  • Soft: Tencel is one of the softest bedding materials available on the market, and the Nolah Original Hybrid’s cover adds a luxurious touch, providing a cozy surface for restful sleep.

Zoned AirFoam Ice

This is Nolah’s proprietary foam, exclusively found in all of the mattresses, designed to provide heat relief and cool sleep throughout the night, on a layer that is more durable and responsive than memory foam, for increased comfort.

  • Open-Cell Structure: The AirFoam layer utilizes advanced open-cell foam (foam pierced with thousands of small holes) to enhance airflow, ensuring better temperature regulation.

  • Copper-Infused: Infused with copper, the foam provides antimicrobial benefits and promotes a cleaner sleeping surface.

  • Zoned Comfort: The foam is zoned to offer targeted pressure relief, especially for the shoulders and hips, making it particularly beneficial for side sleepers who require increased plushness in those areas.

EverAdapt Transition Foam

This is a 1-inch layer that transitions your body from pressure relief to the supportive layer of coils beneath.

  • Adds Bounce: Its responsive nature ensures a slight bounce, preventing the sleepers from feeling stuck in their mattress.

  • Smooth Transition: It evenly distributes weight and enhances the overall support system.

HDMax Tri-Zone Coils

This is the Nolah Original Hybrid’s main support system, 8-inches of coils providing zoned support to ensure the right amount of support down the entire body.

  • Tri-Zone Design: The coils are strategically zoned to provide extra lumbar support while maintaining pressure relief for lighter areas.

  • Edge Reinforcement: Enhanced edge support from firmer coils around the perimeter of the mattress maximizes the usable sleeping surface, reducing sagging and roll-off. Reinforced edges help make the mattress feel up to 20% wider, as sleepers comfortably sleep from edge to edge without the feeling of rolling off the bed.

High-Density Base Foam

As found in most hybrid mattresses, this bottom foam is high-density, providing stability and durability to the Nolah Original Hybrid mattress.

  • Durable Foundation: This base foam layer stabilizes the mattress and ensures longevity by supporting the coil system in its decompression.

  • Supportive: Designed to maintain the mattress’s structural integrity over time.

Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Sleep Tests

Everything we felt in one box

Firmness Temperature Maintenance Sleeping Style Bed Base
We have rated the Nolah Original Hybrid a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, making it a fairly average firmness mattress, ideal for different sleeping preference, and couples with different sleeping styles. We have found the firmness to be well spread across the mattress, thanks to the zoned foams and coils.
Thanks to its breathable cover made of Tencel, AirFoam pierced with thousands of holes for air flow, and a thick 8-inch layer of coils, which allows for plenty of air flow, we found the Nolah Original Hybrid to be sleeping very temperature neutral, helping the body to regulate its own temperature, no matter the season.
The mattress cover should be spot cleaned only. Simply use a clean cloth, water, and a mild detergent to blot the stain. Never rub, as the stain may spread. We always recommend protecting your mattress investment with a high-quality waterproof mattress protector. We love the Nolah one!
We recommend the Nolah Original Hybrid mattress to all side-sleepers, as well as back-sleepers under 150 lbs, as the layers of the mattress will provide the right amount of pressure relief in high-pressure areas (hips and shoulders) and zoned support down the entire spine in those positions.
As with most modern mattresses, the Nolah Original Hybrid mattress can be placed on any bed frame – box springs, divan bases, traditional frames, slats, adjustable bases, and even the floor will do!

We have rated the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress a 6.5/10 on the firmness scale, placing it in the medium-firm category, as a very average firmness. This level of firmness strikes a balance that suits most sleepers, as it is quite versatile:

  • Side Sleepers: Zoned AirFoam Ice provides targeted pressure relief, allowing for the hips and shoulders to dip a little deeper than the rest of the body, providing extra pressure relief where it is needed, with some support for those areas coming from the transition foam and coils.

  • Lighter-Weight Back Sleepers: The medium-firm feel supports the natural curve of the spine and provides the body and spine with the support it needs to sleep aligned. We recommend the Nolah Original Hybrid for back sleepers under 150 lbs, and heavier folks may be looking for a slightly firmer / more supportive mattress – we recommend the Nolah Evolution in Luxury Firm or Firm.

  • Combination Sleepers: The EverAdapt Transition Foam and responsive coils ensure easy movement, making the Nolah Original Hybrid great for combination sleepers who toss and turn to various positions at night.

  • Stomach Sleepers: This mattress is too soft for stomach-sleepers, who would risk sleeping with a curved spine. Instead, consider the Nolah Evolution in Firm.

Temperature Regulation

If you are prone to overheating at night, the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress is designed to keep you cool, or at the very least, temperature neutral:

  • Tencel Cover: Its breathability wicks away moisture and promotes airflow.

  • AirFoam Ice: The open-cell structure and copper infusion work together to dissipate heat. Its thousands of air bubble holes let your hot body air drain into the mattress, while cool air from the coils can rise towards your body.

  • Coil Layer: The individually wrapped coils allow for plenty of air to circulate, further enhancing temperature regulation. Hot body air escapes through the coils, while cooler bedroom air enters and reaches the foams above.

Motion Transfer

Thanks to its combination of foam and coils, the Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress offers excellent motion isolation:

  • Individually Wrapped Coils: These coils prevent motion from traveling across the mattress, minimizing disturbances.

  • Foam Layers: The dense foam layers absorb vibrations, making this mattress ideal for couples or light sleepers.

Maintenance

To prolong the lifespan of the Nolah Original Hybrid, follow these maintenance tips:

  • Rotate Regularly: Rotate the mattress 180 degrees every three to six months to ensure even wear. Never flip the mattress as it is built with coils at the bottom and the Tencel cover at the top of the mattress.

  • Use a Protector: A high-quality waterproof mattress protector will guard against spills and stains.

  • Spot Clean: Use a clean cloth, mild soap, and water to clean stains by blotting it – do not rub the stain as it could spread further. Avoid over-saturating with water to prevent soaking the foam layers, and let fully air dry before adding your protector and sheets back up.

  • Proper Foundation: Place the mattress on a sturdy, supportive base for optimal performance.

Who Is The Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress Good For?

The Nolah Original Hybrid Mattress is a versatile choice suitable for:

  • Side Sleepers: Zoned pressure relief makes it a top choice for those who experience shoulder and hip discomfort.

  • Hot Sleepers: The combination of cooling materials ensures a temperature-neutral sleep environment.

  • Couples: Excellent motion isolation and strong edge support make it ideal for shared sleep spaces.

  • Eco-Conscious Shoppers: The sustainable Tencel cover aligns with environmentally friendly values.
