BEST MATTRESS IN CANADA

Our Top Picks - Updated Yearly

Purchasing a mattress in Canada should not be hard and it does not have to be more expensive than in the U.S. For many years, purchasing a mattress in Canada has been a frustrating process, but more and more U.S. mattress companies make an effort in delivering north of the border and many even manufacture their mattresses in Canada! Before sharing the Non-Biased Reviews’ Best Mattress In Canada, let’s look at the methodology used to compile this list.

The mattress experts of Non-Biased Reviews published their Best Mattress 2023 list and used it as a starter. If the mattress company ships to Canada, the price is compared to tell you whether you are getting the mattress at a discount or a premium against the USD price, when purchasing in Canada.

This year, we are seeing a huge swing in Canada’s favor. Many mattresses that were in the $100-$200 premium range, are now $200-$300 cheaper than in the USA! It’s a very good time to buy a mattress for Canadians!

I love that GhostBed sells their mattresses in Canada. And they don’t just sell them north of the border, they go a step further – three of their four GhostBed mattresses on the Canadian market are made in Canada, including the GhostBed Luxe!

They’re definitely one of the newer players on the market but they are loved deeply south of the border. While one of my favorites is the GhostBed Luxe, I had the honor of visiting their headquarters in Florida and could personally recommend all four of the GhostBed mattresses. Their adjustable base even made it as #1 Best Adjustable Bed 2023 for how quiet it is.

The GhostBed Luxe is a wonderful mattress for hot sleepers. With 13 inches in height, its 7 layers of patented cooling technologies work together to ensure a cool night of sleep and prevent all night sweats. This all-foam mattress works well for side-sleepers and lighter-weight back and stomach sleepers, as well as back-sleepers who prefer a plush mattress with contouring.

Feel free to look into their GhostBed Flex if you are a fan of hybrid mattresses, and their GhostBed 3D Matrix is you like the feel of polymer. GhostBed also sells a second all-foam mattresse – the GhostBed Classic, great for back and stomach-sleepers.

I know this is the second most expensive mattress I am putting on this list, but the quality sleep you get from the GhostBed Luxe is worth the investment if you’re able to afford it, and it is definitely the best mattress in Canada this year! At a $269 CAD discount vs. your American neighbors, it is a great value for this technologically-advanced mattress made in Canada. In 2022, the GhostBed was over $100 CAD more expensive in Canada than in the U.S., so now is a really good time to purchase it, if you’ve had your eyes on it!

What we loved:

  • Cool sleep properties (from its cool-to-the-touch cover to its cooling foams, no more night sweats)
  • Deep pressure point relief
  • Great for people sleeping on their sides or enjoying a plusher mattress, while looking for spinal support
  • Responsive foam layers so you never feel stuck in the mattress
  • Strong support provided by a thick high-density base

The Silk & Snow Hybrid is the first Canadian mattress of the list. Click here for our  Silk & Snow Hybrid review in French.

The mattress industry is very much moving towards hybrid mattresses. They provide a great amount of spinal support underneath the softer, more contouring, foams of the top. The air flowing from within the coils also rise into the top layers of foam, ensuring that those foams stay cool and your body heat escapes down into the coils.

Silk & Snow is a Canadian mattress manufacturer who sources all of their materials (cotton, steel, etc.) in Canada. There is strong attention to detail and the quality shows.

We loved the 1,200 Canadian-forged coils, providing full-body support while our deep-pressure points (hips / shoulders) sunk into just the right amount of foam. The foam is responsive enough to never feel stuck in the mattress and a reinforced middle zone provides extra support to the lumbar area.

Because no one likes waking up soaked in sweat, the Silk & Snow Hybrid mattress provides a cool sleeping surface and a silver-infused, anti-microbial cover that is plush and keeps the bacteria away.

As of February 2023, you are paying a small $47 CAD discount on the Silk & Snow Hybrid, which is the typical trend over the last few years for Silk & Snow.

What We Loved:

  • All Canadian sourced and crafted materials
  • Cool sleeping surface
  • Right amount of plushness
  • Extra support to the back
  • Luxurious quilted foam inside the mattress cover
  • 1,200 pocketed coils absorbing most of the motion so you won’t wake up from your moving partner

Meet the Emma Mattress – if you don’t know it yet, I am so glad to introduce it to you!

Emma Sleep was started in 2015 in Frankfurt, Germany. Today, Emma sells mattresses in over 30 countries on 5 continents, and is present in over 4 million sleepers’ rooms! Their mission is to design and manufacture mattresses to the specifications and expectations of each market. You will find different Emma mattresses sold in each market. In the U.S., and in Canada, Emma sells an all-foam mattress (this Emma Original) and a hybrid called Emma CliMax Hybrid – sold at about a $300 CAD premium.

The Emma Original Mattress provides a cool sleep mattress cover and upper layer of foam. Both layers conduct your excess body heat away from you by wicking away moisture and letting the heat escape through open-cell foam, while bringing cool room temperature air back up to you. After two layers of pressure-relief, your body receives spine-aligning support from the thicker high-density foam that acts as a base to the mattress.

We recommend the Emma mattress to side-sleepers under 200 lbs, most back-sleepers, and light-weight stomach-sleepers who like to be cradled to sleep. The mattress sleeps temperature neutral, making it a good option for hot and cold sleepers.

You are paying under $699 CAD for the queen mattress vs. $699 USD south of the border, for the same mattress, giving you a $246 CAD discount on the Emma Original Mattress! And don’t forget to use our exclusive discount code for an extra 5% OFF your purchase – only available for our readers!

Here is the first mattress of our list of Best Mattresses in Canada, which is only sold in Canada, and Americans south of the border are seriously missing out! Endy is a mattress made in Canada, by Canadians, for Canadians. The foams are poured in Ontario and Québec, and the mattresses are handcrafted in Canada.

Endy has engineered foams that retain their original properties no mattress the weather. Foam is a material that naturally hardens in colder temperatures, but Endy’s foams will offer you a consistent sleep experience no matter the weather. This is a great plus in Canada, where winter and summer temperatures can vary greatly!

The Endy Mattress is an all-foam mattress that we recommend for hot sleepers, couples with different sleeping styles, side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers. Unless you have a preference for very plush mattresses, you will sleep very comfortably on the Endy mattress, no matter your sleep preference. We rated the Endy Mattress a 6.5 / 10 on the firmness scale, placing it near the middle of the pack, and making it a very versatile foam mattress.

Another thing to love about the Endy Mattress is its machine-washable mattress cover. Simply unzip, wash, dry, and zip back up!

You are paying under $1,000 CAD for the queen mattress – current discounted price is $895! – and will be getting the perfect balance of pressure relief, spinal alignment, and support for a healthy night of sleep.

I love that OkiOki ships to Canada for free. You will actually be buying the mattress on the U.S. site, in USD, and shipping to Canada is free, so you are getting the same great deal as anyone else in the U.S.

OkiOki makes 4 mattresses and the OkiFirm earned Best Mattress For Stomach-Sleepers 2022 in this year’s ranking.

We found the OkiFirm to be an excellent option for stomach-sleepers who naturally need a little more support in the hip area. It is also a really good option if you are a back-sleeper who enjoys a firmer sleeping surface.

All memory foam, the OkiFirm uses its densest foam to provide great spinal support and you will find less contouring and sinking-in than in most of the mattresses in this list.

OkiOki uses graphite foam in this mattress. It is made of thousands of tiny air bubbles, which coupled with the Ice Yarn mattress cover, helps circulate fresh air through the mattress to prevent you from overheating and sweating at night.

At $703 CAD (based on the 1.35 exchange rate on $520 USD), it is the second cheapest of our Best Mattress In Canada 2023 list! You can’t beat the value! If you prefer a softer option, check the other 3 OkiOki mattresses: the OkiSoft is an all-foam mattress and great for side-sleepers, the OkiFlex is a firmer hybrid mattress ideal for back and stomach-sleepers, and the OkiEasy is the softer hybrid mattress, working best for side-sleepers.

What we loved:

  • 365-night at-home sleep trial
  • Cooler, air pocket-infused foam
  • Spinal and neck support
  • Cool-to-the-touch cover
  • Unbeatable value!

Novosbed is selling at a $48 CAD premium in 2023, a slight improvement over last year. Canadian prices, due to material shortages, have gone up in the last 2 years and we are sad to see a Canadian mattress sold for more in Canada than in the U.S. However, the GoodMorning Novosbed is an incredible mattress we highly recommend.

What I really loved when testing the Novosbed, was the adjustable firmness attachment that you can zip to the top of your cover. In the bed-in-a-box world, it is difficult to trust that you will find the right feel for your body without prior testing. Many companies offer long trial periods to ensure that you are perfectly happy with your purchase. OkiOki for example, gives you a whole year of sleeping at home and lets you return the mattress during that time for a refund, if you are unhappy.

Here at GoodMorning, you don’t just get a 120-night at-home trial…. Novosbed gives you 2 chances to get that feeling right by letting you adjust the mattress firmness from home. Novosbed is delivered with a free Comfort+ layer, which zips right onto your mattress cover and lets you soften or harden the bed in seconds.

What We Loved:

  • Adjustable sleeping surface to a firmer or softer one from home
  • Ideal for all types of sleepers and great if your partner and you have different sleeping styles
  • High-end responsive memory foam, so you never feel stuck
  • Billions of air bubbles infused in the foam for air flow and to prevent over-heating
  • Great pressure point relief
  • Very low motion transfer so your partner’s movements don’t wake you up

Polysleep crushes the competition with an astounding $338 CAD discount on its U.S. price. In Canada, you are getting an amazing deal on the Polysleep and it brings excellent value into your bedroom, with a queen-size bed selling under the $1,000 mark at $960 CAD ($20 CAD cheaper than last year!!)! Prices are fixed to the same amount, no matter the currency, so you are ripping the benefits of the exchange rate in Canada.

Polysleep is another Canadian mattress manufacturer and we loved their Polysleep Mattress.

Made of 4 distinct layers of foam, it uses an antimicrobial foam that keeps bacteria, dust, and germs away. You will find great spinal support on the entire surface of the mattress, thanks to the high-density foam used as a base layer, and you will appreciate the soft contouring of the upper layers, that help you relieve your high-pressure points throughout the night.

What we loved:

  • Healthy sleep thanks to the antimicrobial cover
  • Liquid-repellent cover to help minimize spill stains
  • Great pressure point relief
  • Strong spinal support
  • Minimal sagging for a wider sleeping surface and easier getting in and out of bed

Leesa has sold over 350,000 mattresses and has expanded from the U.S.A. to sell in Canada, the UK, Germany, Ireland, and soon France. Their great success in foreign markets is a good indicator of the premium sleep experience they provide!

Looking at the Leesa Original in more detail, it is an all-memory foam mattress that performs really well in the hot-sleeper category and has an excellent balance of plush contouring and responsiveness.

About average in firmness, we found it to sleep very comfortably for side and back-sleepers. It provides excellent pressure point relief without giving you the feeling of being stuck and overheating in the foam.

Can we talk about its design for a minute? The grey cover is absolutely beautiful (and super soft!) and a welcome modern design in the mattress industry!

What We Loved:

  • Modern design
  • Hip and shoulder pressure point relief
  • Responsive foam that doesn’t get you stuck in it
  • Comfortable contouring
  • Temperature-neutral sleep

A favorite in the U.S., it comes at an incredible $256 CAD Discount in Canada this year. Here is another great mattress you are getting for a lot less than your neighbors south of the border.

The Casper Original is a 100% foam mattress that uses perforated foam in its top layer to keep you cool throughout the night.

We found it to give great support to the entire body, helping your spine align by giving the shoulders a slightly deeper sink (great for side-sleepers!) and keeping your hips aligned in a healthy position.

The perforated upper layer of foam gives an escape channel for your body heat, helping it dissipate into the lower layers of foam.

What we loved:

  • Great spinal alignment from the neck down
  • Zoned memory foam gives more sink to the shoulder area and support to the hips
  • No overheating during the night, very temperature-neutral sleep
  • Option to order as hybrid (with coils) for an extra $200 CAD

Here’s our second GoodMorning mattress in our list of Best Mattress in Canada 2023! The Douglas. You guys are simply getting the best deal since it doesn’t sell in the U.S. 🙂 Americans south of the border, are definitely on the loosing end with this one!

At $779 CAD (only a $30 CAD increase from last year), the Douglas is accessible to most budgets and offers amazing value. It is an AWESOME mattress and one of the few mattresses at this price point that I would gladly sleep on.

Its cooling gel memory foam ensures a cool night of sleep. I am seeing more and more mattresses infusing cooling gel in their memory foam and GoodMorning has been doing it for several years.

We loved the three layers of foam providing the perfect mix of contouring, pressure relief, support, and temperature-neutral sleep. There is minimal motion transfer, making the Douglas by GoodMorning a great option for couples, and the pure Canadian design on the mattress cover is absolutely charming!

What We Loved:

  • Canadian mattress cover design
  • Zippable and machine-washable mattress cover
  • Eucalyptus-derived cover that wicks away moisture
  • Temperature-neutral sleep
  • Latex-like feeling that is a little bouncier so you don’t feel stuck in the foam
  • Can recommend for all sleeping positions, making the Douglas a great mattress for couples

Layla does things differently – there is no markup on the mattress in Canada. You will be purchasing it on the U.S. site and paying the price Americans south of the border are charged, based on your credit card’s exchange rate of the day. They do however, charge shipping to Canada as a percentage of your purchase price, based on your province.

Shipping to New Brunswick, Newfounland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island is charged 15% of your purchase price, or $192.5 CAD based on the current price of the mattress of $1,283 USD. If you are shipping to Ontario, you are only charged 13%. This strategy was new in 2022 and must work out for them, since they are keeping with it. In prior years, Layla charged a flat fee of $250 USD for shipping to Canada.

So your relative price in Canada puts you at about a $193 CAD Premium vs. what U.S. customers are charged. However, for a mattress this quality under $1,500 CAD (including shipping), I felt like I had to put the Layla Memory Foam mattress on your radar.

The Layla Memory Foam mattress is a copper mattress and performs extremely well for hot sleepers. The copper gel infused in the foam reacts to your body in real time. It provides softness and contouring while firming up in higher pressure areas to provide ample support where the body needs it most. The copper also has heat conduction properties, which dissipate your body’s heat away from you while you sleep. You can expect a temperature-neutral sleep on the Layla Memory Foam mattress.

I love that the Layla is a flippable mattress. With a soft and a firm side, should your sleeping preference, or position, change, simply flip your Layla Memory Foam mattress to change the comfort level of your mattress.

Both sides of the mattress include the cooling gel technology, which activates with your body temperature.

What we loved:

  • 2-mattresses-in-1 with a flippable soft and firm side
  • Temperature-neutral sleep
  • Great combination of pressure relief and support
  • Healthier sleep thanks to anti-microbial properties of copper in the foam
  • Great motion transfer thanks to a 4-inch support foam layer in the center of the mattress
  • Awesome modern design!

The reason why I have the Purple mattress here, is because of how popular it is, the high quality of the product, and because I know many of you will be interested in shopping it this year. However, it is by far, our worst-performing mattress of the Best Mattress in Canada list in terms of relative value. You are charged a $1,322 premium when purchasing the Purple Plus mattress in Canada. The premium resides exclusively in the cost of the mattress since you are getting free shipping, just like your U.S. counterparts.

Since the Purple Mattress is no longer sold in Canada, the next cheapest option is the Purple Plus, which is the one we are recommending here.

The Purple mattress is one of U.S. Americans’ favorites. It is very unique in the way it feels and sleeps, with maybe the exception of the GhostBed 3D Matrix, which comes close to the feeling.

The Purple’s top layer is made of  2 inches of Purple’s proprietary polymer. It has a very unique feel where it feels soft as soon as you sit on it, but as you lay your body, your weight gets nicely distributed and the mattress seems to firm up.

Underneath the polymer layer, Purple added 3 layers of foam, for great support and nearly no motion transfer.

What We Loved:

  • Temperature-neutral sleep thanks to 1,400 air channels built into the grid
  • Cool-to-the-touch cover
  • Amazing responsiveness that bounces back as soon as you switch position
  • Great pressure point relief in the hip and shoulder areas

Tuft & Needle has added the Mint Mattress to their Original Mattress, on the Canadian market this year. We like both mattresses and are focusing on the Original one in this list of Bests, though you should consider the Mint Mattress if you are very hot sleeper or sleep with a partner.

You are getting the Tuft & Needle Original Mattress for a $74 CAD Discount on the U.S. market and with a Queen-size mattress priced under $900 CAD, you are getting a lot of value.

Tuft & Needle’s Original mattress is a wonder of cool sleep. Tuft & Needle’s proprietary adaptive foam is open cell, creating a breathable sleeping surface that adapts to your body’s shape. It is infused with graphite and cooling gel to ensure that you don’t overheat.

We found the Tuft & Needle to be just a little firmer than the average mattress and a great option for the side and back-sleepers. You will find great pressure relief with support brought by the lower layers of foam.

What we loved:

  • Excellent value
  • Great for hot-sleepers
  • Pressure-relieving foam
  • Super soft cover
  • Responsive proprietary foam so you never feel stuck in the mattress
  • Very low motion transfer, great for sleeping with a partner

Best Mattress In Canada 2023

Finding a great quality mattress in Canada does not have to be expensive or difficult.

Every year, we notice new mattress manufacturers entering the Canadian market and offering free shipping and prices equivalent to the U.S. market. Some go the extra step and manufacture their mattresses in Canada, and this year’s list looks quite a bit different from our Best Mattress In Canada 2022 list.

There are also great Canadian mattress companies that have made our list of Best Mattress 2023, and typically offer great relative value in CAD. They take pride in sourcing their materials from Canadian provinces and design and manufacture their mattresses in Canada.

While I can’t tell you exactly which mattress will be best for your personal needs and preference, I hope that this guide helps you narrow down your options. And remember, the sleep trials allow you to give your chosen mattress a long try at home before deciding whether it is made for you or not!

So which one is YOUR best mattress in Canada 2023?

  1. love to read all the comments here…also looking into a new mattress however do not want to make a mistake, do not want to “try out” too many for trial as it can get too complicated, therefore this site is great. Very helpful thanks…

  2. I am returning my Douglas Mattress due to overheating, my arm falling asleep and my husbands back (he feels better when he switches back to our old spring mattress). I am a side, front leaning sleeper and my husband is a back sleeper. I was looking into Saatva and Purple, but they don’t deliver to Nova Scotia. How is the Brunswick bed?

    1. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you, hopefully you are still in the free trial period. I haven’t tried their brunsick, but I have tried the logan and cove which has coils so it may be more similar to your old mattress.

  3. I was delighted to hear your French! I was expecting it to be horrible with the comments you made about it, but I am truly impressed.I am French Canadian born and I can promise you that your French is very good. There is almost no accent. Where did you learn it?!?
Anyways…I am looking for a new mattress and was wondering which Canadian mattress was your favorite? I owned a Tempurpedic that I loved but my husband switched us to a hybrid which sank and I now hurt like crazy when I sleep (shoulders, hips and lower back) I am a side and back sleeper. Any suggestion?

  4. I am of a certain age when one sleeps quite hot, so i’m looking for a bed that breathes and cools. I’ve read other reviews that says logan and cove is the best for this — given the coils and the silk top. What is your opinion on which bed is best for the coolest sleep possible

    1. Innerspring mattresses like the logan and cove tend to sleep pretty cool. I tried it in the summer and didn’t have any heat issues. You may also want to look into latex mattresses as they are typically cool as well.

  5. I live in Ontario and all I see are foam beds. I recently saw a Hamuq and Logan & Cove appear on Facebook. Do you have any reviews for these beds?

I really don’t want foam but can’t find any spring mattress reviews..

    Thanks in
    advance,

    Brenda

        1. It’s a good value, there are just so many other choices in the states so that combined with how much I liked the douglas probably kept me from being enthusiastic about it.

  6. You should test out Endy! It’s huge in the mattress market and 100% Canadian I’d love to know what you think of this mattress!

  7. Rana, your videos and website are amazing and so informative! I’m in need of a mattress and I’m considering the Leesa, Tomorrow and Nectar, I have several spine conditions and I’m currently sleeping on all foam 17 year old mattress that has served me well, and is screaming for a replacement. I’m a stomach sleeper but I’m hoping if I purchase an adjustable bed, I can change to a side or stomach sleeper. I’m open to any suggestions you may be able to give me. I’m definitely not locked in,to the three brands I mentioned, any suggestions or advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.
You are the Mattress Guru, thanks,
    Ellen

  8. I’m Canadian, I looked up some brands available to us in Winnipeg and your site did appear (page 2 I think) . Either way, it’s refreshing to hear someone talk to us Canadians since shipping fees and delays from the US mattress makers is so annoying. Keep growing in our (smaller) country, we appreciate you and other sites starting to do this!

      1. Sure! I’ve seen lots online about the “big guys” – even casper is here now. But haven’t heard much from REAL canadian-made mattresses. A new brand called Logan and Cove showed up in an ad for me but I haven’t read a ton of reviews about them- maybe because they are new. That might be a good one to look at in the future becasue I really am scared of memory foam – but this looks like a spring/foam hybrid. I can try and find more information too but thanks

        1. Thanks! I have a Logan and Cove right now. It is the big brother of the Douglas and has a great sales price of $999 CD, which is like $800 USD. I’m not done with my review of it yet. I’ll try to get it on the site in the next week though.

          1. I’d also love to see your review of Logan & Cove. Saw it in my google search yesterday

          2. I have tried it and shot some video, just haven’t edited it yet. They have 2 other products from Novosbed and I prefer their Douglas and Novosbed. However, that’s mostly since I’m small.

  9. Your heart really must go out to your Canadian readers- you put out a lot of work to make their life easier when buying a mattress!! 🙂 <3

    1. Sadly, Google hasn’t really discovered this page yet so I don’t think that I have that many Canadian readers. I have been waiting for them to comment on my french accent.

      1. What French accent? I just purchased a ” Bloom” from Sleep Country. They have a very cleverly worded guarantee! Anyway, I would classify it as a toss and turn mattress. I am seventy two years old and weigh 140 lbs.,5′ tall. Finding a suitable mattress has been a real problem. I just found your site. Thank you. Tom E.

        1. Tom, It gets a little tricky when trying to test and review a mattress coming from across the border but DOZY is on my list. I will try my best to get it some day. Also thank you for the FYI. So do you still have the Bloom? And yes, finding the right mattress is not as easy as it may seem. Keep me posted!

      2. Hi, your French is very good. Also, I just noticed that Novosbed has 2 new mattresses the Record and the Brunswick. I was wondering if you plan to review either of those. Thanks, I really like your reviews.
